About Needham Public Schools (NPS): NPS has a deep commitment to the success of our diverse students and families and to the professional accomplishments of its educators. This METCO district comprises 5 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 1 nationally-ranked high school serving approximately 5,500 students. Job Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging health and physical education lessons across various topics (e.g., CPR, Fitness, Yoga, Nutrition, Games, Sexuality, and Drug Education) for students in grades 9-12.
- Collaborate with the high school health and physical education team to design, assess, and refine programs, curriculum, assessments, and teaching strategies.
- Advocate for the importance of physical education and wellness within the school and the broader community.
- Partner with other high school educators to integrate curriculum and develop innovative programming that supports student well-being.
- Work closely with professionals from other disciplines (e.g., counseling, health services, food services, community organizations) to enrich the curriculum and enhance programming.
- Contribute to the development of additional wellness initiatives based on the unique needs of the school.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
- Effectively works with diverse groups of staff and students, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment.
- Possesses a strong understanding of wellness and actively integrates wellness concepts into the curriculum, promoting a culture of wellness across the school community, including students, teachers, and parents.
- Recognizes wellness as a holistic and multidimensional concept, addressing physical, emotional, and social well-being.
- Holds current certification as an American Heart First Aid Instructor.
- Possesses specialized training in sexuality education.
- Has experience or knowledge in areas such as fitness, yoga, nutrition, and drug education.
Required Qualifications:
- Massachusetts DESE license as a 5-12 Physical Education Teacher
- Bachelor's degree
