About the Position
As an entry level Distribution Design Intern in the Distribution group, you will be responsible for learning the best design practices to fulfill the requests of our clients. This will involve the design of electrical overhead and underground distribution lines, following standard industry practices while adhering to client design specifications. Daily tasks will require exceptional communication skills to interact with our clients, their customers, and other consultants.
Local travel will be required to learn how to stake projects and help coordinate construction efforts. The successful candidate will serve as liaison for parties involved in the construction process. He or she will need to take a proactive approach for challenges or issues that arise at any stage of the project. This position requires working on multiple projects simultaneously, so having outstanding organization skills is a must.
Salary Range: $27.00 / hour
The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.
This opportunity is available to local / in-office (Lakewood, CO) candidates.
Essential Responsibilities
- Learn the detailed review of project specifications and support documentation
- Submits requests for additional information
- Learn to assess project sites to plan for potential issues and contingencies in design
- Help identify and propose solutions for challenges involving right of way, easements, traffic control and other construction aspects
- Uses GIS based software to map designs and specify Construction Units
- Works closely with peers throughout Q/A, Q/C process
- Generates cost reports and review with client
- Assesses project sites for construction and plan necessary adjustments to meet schedules
- Communicates with clients, developers, and additional contractors during construction stage to remove potential “roadblocks”
- Assists client with project closeout procedures and As-built corrections.

Must Have
- Education: Associates degree preferred
- Experience: 0 - 1 years of relevant experience required
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Outstanding organization skills
- Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems
- Experience reviewing drawing sets with a high attention to detail
- Familiarity with design software
- Track record of consistently delivering projects on time and within budget
- Ability to manage competing priorities with limited structure and direction
- Detail oriented to produce high quality deliverables
- A strong written and verbal command of the English language
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Nice to Have
- Construction experience is a plus
- Experience with ArcGIS software
- Auto CAD experience would be helpful
- Experience working with different utilities is a plus
