About the Position

The Senior Project Accountant is an integral part of the Finance/Accounting team that also serves as a liaison with the Project Services team. This position works directly with the Project Accounting Manager to troubleshoot complex issues, provides guidance to the team of Project Accountants and Specialists, holds a key role in revenue recognition, project profitability reporting and analysis, client invoicing, project setup, and various other financial/accounting tasks as they relate to NEI’s portfolio of projects. This position also works closely with the Project Accounting Manager and the Project Services team on various efforts to support project financial operations.  Strong organizational skills are required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload in a fast-paced environment. A successful candidate possesses structure, attention to detail, and a positive, team-orientated attitude.

This opportunity is available to both local / in-office (Lakewood, Colorado) and full-time remote candidates.

Salary Range: $95,000 – $105,000 / year

The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market. NEI bases salaries on the Denver, Colorado labor market for both local and remote team members.

Essential Responsibilities

• Assists the Project Accounting Manager with troubleshooting and managing more complex aspects of the Project Accounting duties and department
• Steps up as point of contact and assists in problem resolution and management of the department in the absence of the Project Accounting Manager
• Understands implications of various project financial inputs on ASC 606 revenue recognition and advises project managers accordingly
• Assists in processing and reviewing revenue recognition, by project, in accordance with ASC 606
• Reviews project audits, analyzes project financials, and investigates discrepancies between ERP and contract
• Assists with annual audit inquiries relating to projects and ensure proper documentation is maintained throughout the year in support of the annual audit
• Assists the Project Accounting team with more complex invoicing requests, and performs all invoicing functions for the assigned portfolio of projects/project managers
• Collaborates with Project Accountants, Project Managers, and clients to ensure all parties are synchronized on the invoicing process/requirements for each client account
• Reviews setup of new projects in ERP system; ensuring project setup aligns with contract details
• Maintains data integrity in ERP system as it relates to projects, especially revenue methods/recognition, project structure, and cost tracking
• Follow-up with clients on past due balances, greater than 60 days, and resolve complex client invoice inquiries
• Actively engages and participates in meetings maintains strict confidentiality
• Provides a high-level of customer service to internal and external clients
• Maintains high ethical and professional standards
• Other job-related duties as assigned

Must Have

• Experience: 3 years of experience as a Project Accountant in the architecture, engineering, or construction industry.  Knowledge of ASC 606 revenue recognition and percentage of completion accounting.  Minimum of 1 year of mentorship and coaching experience.
• Education: College degree in accounting, finance, or related business field
• Experience with ERP systems
• High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, and Word with a positive attitude towards new technology
• High level of attention to detail
• Must have a positive, can-do attitude
• Exceptional interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills; ability to interact successfully at all levels of the organization; demonstrates high emotional intelligence
• Professional, articulate, and able to exercise good independent judgement and discretion
• Demonstrated ability to take initiative, successfully handle, delegate, and prioritize multiple competing tasks and effectively manage deadlines
• Highly organized, motivated self-starter
• Proven record of delivering a high standard of quality work with exceptional attention to detail
• Comfortable working with ambiguity and creating systems and plans where there are none
• Flexible and able to adapt to a fast-paced environment with a quickly growing team
• A strong written and verbal command of the English language
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Nice to Have

• Proficiency in Deltek Vantagepoint is highly preferential, proficiency/experience with other Deltek software products is highly advantageous
