SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The Clinical Therapist II is responsible for providing high quality client care, displaying professional skills in assessment, diagnosis and treatment, with excellent documentation skills.  The Therapist produces and maintains treatment records in accordance with all local, state, and federal guidelines, as well as any licensing or accreditation body.  The Therapist may also act as a resource in training and consulting with staff.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.   

  • Conducts screening assessments, and reviews intake and admission information on prospective clients for possible clinical services.  Reviews all available assessments and pertinent information from outside agencies, and may also confer with birth parents.
  • Participates in family team meetings, and attends treatment teams and other meetings to represent the clinical needs of the client. 
  • Provides individual therapy to an assigned caseload of clients in the office, in-home and in the community, as indicated.  The Therapist will display good theoretical knowledge of mental health issues in children, adolescents, and adults, understand stages of human development and demonstrate competent treatment techniques.
  • Provides Group Therapy to an assigned caseload of clients in the office, in-home, and in the community as indicated.  The Therapist will display good theoretical knowledge of Group Therapy concepts,and demonstrate competent treatment techniques.
  • Provides Family Therapy to an assigned caseload of clients in the office, in-home, and in the community as indicated.  The Therapist will display good theoretical knowledge of Family dynamics, family development, and demonstrate competent treatment techniques.
  • Provides Psycho-Educational Groups to an assigned caseload of clients in the office, in-home, and in the community as indicated.  The Therapist will display good theoretical knowledge of the subject being taught, and demonstrate competent group facilitation techniques.
  • Prepares and maintains all therapeutic notes, records, reports, and other necessary clinical documentation in a timely manner.  All documentation must meet the required standards set by the licensing or accrediting bodies that Neighbor To Family may be involved with, as well as all Federal and State standards and Rules.
  • Scores and/or interprets self-assessment tools to measure current functioning and records results.
  • Participates in the design and implementation of individual treatment plans for their caseload, and monitors and records progress in achieving the goals of the individual treatment plan.
  • Participates in peer to peer chart reviews/audits if/when assigned.
  • Prepares and/or completes other documentation as assigned.
  • May be assigned to act as a Field Supervisor to a Bachelors level Intern, or as a Task Supervisor for a Masters level Intern, provided the Therapist is licensed and has been approved to do so by the State agency that authorizes supervision.
  • Functions cooperatively as a member of the treatment team.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, clients and agencies, conveying a positive, professional image.
  • Brings to Supervisor’s attention significant issues related to program functioning.
  • Works sufficient hours to ensure effective positive performance.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Good organizational skills; a commitment to serving and treating children and families; an understanding of and commitment to the goals and philosophy of Neighbor to Family.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.   

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:  A Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related Human Services field, plus two years of clinical experience in child welfare or related human services field. Licensed or licensed eligible preferred.   

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:  Must be licensed or licensed eligible at a Master’s level or higher.   

Basic skills and general knowledge include the following:   

  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Efficient time management and scheduling.
  • Trauma and sexual safety related to childhood abuse and neglect.
  • Knowledge of the range of available community resources 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:   

  • Valid state driver's license, appropriate insurance and reliable car.
  • FL, GA & MD: Bodily liability insurance in the amount of $100,000/claim; $300,000/incident
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must submit to pass random drug tests during employment.
  • Must successfully pass all background screens as required by the state.
  • Must complete 40 hours of training annually.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.   

CULTURAL COMPETENCY:  Ability to relate, understand, accept and interact in a culturally sensitive manner.   

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.   

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and finger to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk, listen and stand and walk to interact with the children. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to must lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
