Job Description
The purpose of the 12 : 1 program at Neighborhood Charter Schools is to address the unique needs of scholars who require more instructional support in select core contents than an ICT classroom provides. This program is listed on a student’s IEP as “12 : 1” and gives scholars a chance to receive the individualized and foundational support they need while still participating in some inclusive programming throughout the day. Our program allows students to feel successful academically and foster a love of learning in school. Our 12 : 1 teachers utilize different programs and modalities to address foundational skills and grade-level standards to fill in knowledge gaps, build student access to grade-level content, and create an environment where students feel successful. Instruction is planned and developed through data study to ensure that individualized student needs are being met.

The 12 : 1 Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and individualized support for students with disabilities, ensuring that each student receives the services outlined in their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). The teacher works within a 12 : 1 classroom setting, where the teacher works with a maximum of 12 students at a time, allowing for more focused and personalized instruction. The role involves collaboration with other educators, support staff, and families to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) : Write, implement, and monitor IEPs for students in the classroom, ensuring they are aligned with students’ unique needs and goals.
- Provide Specialized Instruction : Deliver tailored lessons that meet the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students in the classroom.
- Assess Student Progress : Regularly assess students’ progress toward IEP goals and adjust instruction as needed. Maintain records of assessments and progress reports.
- Behavioral Support : Implement behavior management strategies and create a positive classroom environment. Provide support for students with emotional and behavioral challenges.
- Collaboration : Work closely with fellow teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and other support staff to ensure students' needs are met in both special and general education settings.
- Parent Communication : Regularly communicate with parents and guardians to share progress, concerns, and strategies for supporting students at home.
- Classroom Management : Manage classroom routines, materials, and resources to create an organized and structured learning environment.
- Documentation and Compliance : Ensure all required documentation (IEP meetings, progress reports, accommodations, etc.) is completed in a timely manner in accordance with district and state regulations.
- Professional Development : Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education and instructional strategies.
Educational Background and Work Experience
