NCS seeks an experienced, highly organized, detail-oriented, energetic operational leader who has experience in the NYC charter education world and is committed to urban education. We are looking for someone with prior leadership experience and someone who is excited by the challenge of working for a growing organization that has plans to replicate. This role reports to the Chief of Staff.
The Senior Director of Network Operations & Enrollment will be responsible for supporting school-based teams with the day-to-day operations at all campuses. They will oversee the operational policies and procedures of the school, including recruitment, admissions, facilities, etc. The successful candidate will be high-energy, hands-on, and willing to do whatever it takes. They will work very closely with the Chief of Staff and be the leader of the operations for the network.
The core responsibilities of the Senior Director of Network Operations & Enrollment role at Neighborhood Charter Schools include:
Network Operations Leadership
- Provide strategic direction and oversight for school operations teams, ensuring alignment with the network’s mission and goals.
- Develop, implement, and refine network-wide policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including charter agreements and reporting requirements.
- Ensure strategic alignment and collaboration across campuses.
Enrollment Strategy and Oversight
- Design and lead the network’s enrollment strategy to achieve annual student recruitment and retention targets.
- Collaborate with school leaders to develop campus-specific enrollment plans and initiatives.
- Analyze enrollment trends and demographic data to inform targeted recruitment efforts.
- Oversee marketing and outreach strategies to ensure a consistent and compelling message to prospective families.
- Monitor and report on enrollment progress, providing actionable insights to leadership.
- Create partnerships with neighboring schools to increase enrollment.
- Work with school-based leadership teams to create strong retention strategies.
Facilities Management
- Oversee the maintenance, safety, and development of school facilities, ensuring they support a positive learning environment.
- Ensure operational readiness for new campuses, including facilities preparation, systems setup, and staff training.
Operations Team Development
- Support and develop the Directors of Operations at each school, providing coaching and guidance to drive performance.
- Build and maintain a high-performing network operations team through professional development and ongoing support.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Budget and Resource Management
- Partner with finance teams to develop and manage operations budgets across schools.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising service quality.
- Ensure appropriate allocation of resources to support schools and meet operational goals.
Data and Performance Monitoring
- Use data to evaluate operational effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
- Create and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track operational success and enrollment outcomes.
- Report progress and challenges to network leadership regularly.
Experience And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Director of Operations of a NY charter school and/or network and leading student enrollment is required.
- Track record of exceptional performance and driving towards outcomes when there is organizational complexity and transition management
- Knowledge of how to build a solid and cohesive team
- Highly collaborative, a track record of achieving through influence in the absence of direct management authority
- Strong operational mindsets and skills – able to keep lots of simultaneous projects and initiatives running on time with attention to detail and execution
- Ability to build relationships and effectively interact with a broad range of stakeholders with different interests and needs
- Exceptional reasoning, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
- Highly effective at communicating orally and in writing to a range of audiences
- Ability to work proactively in an ambiguous, dynamic, fast-paced environment
