The Neighborhood Development Center (NDC) is a non-profit, community development financial institution providing integrated business services to low-income community entrepreneurs to start and grow businesses in their own neighborhood. In 2023, NDC was humbled to be named the administrator of the Minnesota PROMISE Act Grants Program for the Twin Cities. The PROMISE Act Grants Program will deliver grants to businesses in North Minneapolis, South Minneapolis, and St. Paul that have been adversely affected by structural racial discrimination, civil unrest, and lack of access to capital. Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with basic banking or financial experience to assist in reviewing and verifying government grant applications. This role involves checking financial documents, reviewing banking information, and ensuring that applications meet program requirements. It’s a great opportunity for someone with some experience in banking or financial review looking to gain experience in economic development and nonprofit work.

Ideal candidates will be mission driven, detail-oriented, and have great analytical and communication skills. Ability to be effective in ambiguity, strong cultural fluency, and possess a sense of urgency. Connections to the Twin Cities communities are highly valued.

The day-to-day activities of this role will vary, based on the stage of the grant cycle we are in. Key responsibilities may include:

o Evaluate grant applications and verify supporting eligibility documentation including tax and financial documents

Notify applicants of necessary revisions

o Manage and update grantee files to ensure accurate record-keeping

o Respond to applicant inquiries via email and phone, offering clear and helpful guidance

o Provide support to applicants if needed, addressing both general and application-specific needs

Requirements

o Experience in a banking or finance setting, such as working as a bank teller.

o Working knowledge of financial documents, including bank statements and checks.

o Basic accounting and data management skills

o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.)

o Technically adept with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new platforms

o Comfortable reviewing tax documents and identifying relevant financial information.

Helpful Qualifications and Background

o Experience or strong interest in working with diverse communities; bilingual skills are a plus

o Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal

o Familiar with WizeHive or other grant management platforms.

o Experience with entrepreneurs and small business owners
