ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE
The Endodontist (dental specialist) works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare (NHC) by providing endodontic services to patients. This role will perform endodontic procedures and services to patients based on in-house dental assessments and plans, diagnosing and treating complex causes of tooth pain (i.e. infections leading to tooth abscesses). In addition, this role will impart health education information, relevant techniques to patients, as well as advising patients on post-surgery dental care, and prescribing suitable pain-relief medication.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Patient Care
- Conducts, develops, and / or confirms suitable individualized in-house endodontic diagnosis and care plan based on dental conditions
- Reviewing patients' medical history and discussing their symptoms and concerns
- Utilizing dental instruments and x-ray equipment to determine the cause of patients' oral pain and discomfort
- Provides appropriate endodontic dental care / services, in compliance with standard of care
- Performing nonsurgical root canal treatment to treat damaged, infected, or calcified tooth pulp and / or canals
- Performing apicoectomies to treat persistent inflammation or infection occurring in the bony area around the end of the tooth
- Maintaining teeth that have previously undergone root canal procedures (aka retreatments)
- Performs dental procedures and services that are within the approved skills profile and / or scope of practice
- Observes, assesses, and records patients’ symptoms, reactions, and treatments progress
- Prescribes medications and provides patients with pertinent medication instructions, as needed
- Reasonably accepting of additional patients into the schedule, as feasible
- Accommodates patients with urgent dental needs, including walk-ins
- Creating and maintaining a professional appearance
Team Support
Lead your team, dental assistants, hygienists, and other staff members to ensure smooth patient care and treatment coordinationWorks with dental team to facilitate prescription refills and paperwork completionProvides dental backup to NHC dental sites and clinicians, as needed and availableProvides supervision, consultations, instructions to Dental Assistants and other health care delivery team members in NHC dental sites, as neededServes as preceptor to dental and paraprofessional students placed with NHCClinical Administration
Minimizes rescheduling of patients; provides instructions if necessaryCompletes and submits daily billing to reflect accurate coding and charges of all services renderedWorks with management on improving efficiency, patient flow, program development, and revenuesMaintains necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirementsAssists management with employee evaluations for the Dental PSRs or Dental Assistants, as neededParticipates in audits, peer reviews, patient satisfactions, protocol developments, meetings, and in-servicing trainings as available and appropriateContributes to the success of NHC by participating in quality improvement activitiesCompletes legible and legally defensible dental recordsEDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
Doctorate degree in Dental Medicine (DMD) or Dental Surgery (DDS) requiredCompletion of a post-doctoral residency program in endodonticsCertification through the American Board of Endodontics (ABE) is preferredProven experience working as an Endodontist (prefer a minimum 2 years of experience as an Endodontist)Valid CA Dental License requiredValid DEA license and current CPR / AED certification requiredExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsEffective communication skills.Good hand-eye condition.A patient and empathetic dispositionBilingual (English / Spanish) preferred but not requiredADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
