ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE:

The Pharmacy Technician works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare by providing excellent patient-centered care and services within a dynamic refill team environment. To achieve these ends the Pharmacy Technician works to improve overall patient satisfaction and well-being by demonstrating and living the company values: Compassion, Above & Beyond, Professionalism, Integrity, and Teamwork. The Pharmacy Technician may perform “nondiscretionary tasks” while “assisting and under the direct supervision and control” of a pharmacist.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Successfully learn and navigate NHC’s electronic medical record and pharmacy software
• Receive prescriptions via electronic, written or facsimile and enter patient, provider, insurance, and prescription data into electronic pharmacy software
• Removes drugs from stock and count, pour, or mix pharmaceuticals
• Prepares medication to be distributed to patients, including affixing labels to the prescription container
• Provide appropriate support to pharmacists, including consulting with pharmacists regarding questions or issues with prescriptions
• Notifies the pharmacist on duty when consultation is required for all new prescriptions, and when patient’s request consultation
• Does not engage in prescription consultation, nor gives pharmaceutical or medical advice, or answers any questions as it pertains to medications indications, administration, storage, or side effects
• Communicate through the EMR with NHC care teams and providers as it relates to patient care
• Re-sends medications to NHC Pharmacy or to external pharmacies as requested by the patient, or if not received during an office visit
• Reviews Medi-Cal Rx formulary to ensure the pharmacy requests prior authorizations when needed
• Review personal telephone encounters in the medical record daily to ensure patient refill or delivery requests are responded to in a timely manner
• Prepares deliveries of patient’s medications to be delivered to outlying clinic locations
• Assists in maintaining a clean and organized work environment

• Provide excellent patient care by responding promptly to patients at the pick-up window

• Receive drug orders, manage inventory levels appropriately, and place drug orders on the shelf

• Maintain a cash register and follow all company monetary policies on cash register management

• Maintains professional working relationships with all levels of staff and patients

• Respect pharmacist authority and decisions, regardless of which pharmacist is working (staff, per diem, Pharmacist in Charge) and regardless of their official status as a supervisor

• Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma/GED required
• CA Board of Pharmacy - Pharmacy Technician License required
• One year of hospital or retail pharmacy experience required
• NABP National Pharmacy Technician Certification preferred
• Experience within a pharmacy refill center preferred
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly preferred

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

• Display knowledge of normal pharmacy practice and provide the appropriate support for the Clinical Pharmacist

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including superior composition, typing, and proofreading skills

• Excellent planning and organizational ability

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

• Ability to multi-task, adapt to changes and work in a dynamic department

• Ability to work well with others and demonstrate teamwork and team-building skills

• Knowledgeable about and experience with pharmacy practices and protocols

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift/carry 20 lbs/weight
• Ability to stand for long periods of time

Pay Range: $22.88 - $30.19 per hour, depending on experience

The posted salary range reflects the designated pay grade for this position. While this range represents the broader classification of the role, actual compensation will be based on several factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s overall knowledge, skills, and experience, market data and industry benchmarks, internal equity within the organization, Budgetary considerations and organizational needs. As a result, placement within the range is not guaranteed, and the full pay grade range may not be utilized.
