What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Aide position at Neighborhood House Charter School?
JOB OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Student Support Coordinator, the Behavioral Aide will provide one-on-one student support as needed to assist in facilitating communication, increasing social skills, academic skills, self-help skills and promoting independence.
This position is a 10 month, school year only position. The hours are 7:45 a.m. - 4 p.m. at our Queen St. campus. The pay range is $20-25 an hour.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Provides intense monitoring of student behavior as indicated on the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP);
Supervises student(s) at all times as indicated on the IEP, to ensure the safety of the student(s), peers, and adults;
Provides support in crisis situations using district-approved safety/restraint protocol when a student becomes a harm to him/herself or others;
Provides verbal support, prompting, redirection and modeling in helping the student(s) access the activities of the curriculum;
Assists with conducting student assessments as directed by classroom teacher(s), Behavior Analyst; or support staff;
Provides overall support to the classroom teacher(s) and student(s), based on the needs of the classroom and the students’ Individual Education Program (IEP) and 504 Plans, if applicable;
Assists classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) in preparing lessons and related materials;
Incorporates knowledge of student learning styles, child development, and skills/knowledge acquisition rates of the student(s) to whom assigned to assist student learning.
Observes and records academic, behavioral and social data to measure progress;
Recognizes when teaching/learning and behavioral strategies are not successful and seeks the guidance of the classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) to adapt assistance accordingly;
If assignment requires, provides direct assistance to students to manage personal care; and
Other duties, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Prior experience working with children in a school setting
Experience working with children on the Autism spectrum or children with emotional or behavioral disorders
ABA experience preferred
