Click here for more details about our benefits program.Job SummaryChild Development Department staff support the Neighborhood House mission framework and Strategic Plan by contributing to the school readiness of low-income children and supporting their parents, care givers and community. Within a home-based model, the primary responsibilities of the EHS (Early Head Start) Home Visitors are to support parents in promoting the optimal development of their children. Parents receive assistance in gaining essential skills and resources to improve their lives. EHS Home Visitors serve highly diverse families using dynamic, developmentally appropriate home-based programs designed to encourage and support the development of children and their families. They provide specialized, one-on-one care with enthusiasm, respect and a passion for helping others.ResponsibilitiesPlan and implement a dynamic, developmentally appropriate home-based program for pregnant women, parents, and children ages birth to three.Plan and implement group socializations for families.In collaboration with other program staff, provide comprehensive services through weekly home visits to approximately 10 to 12 families.Work with parents to create a family development plan that supports parents in achieving goals. Develop positive and effective relationships with families.Teach parents the importance of developing secure attachments with their children.Utilize a strengths-based approach and affirm parents' capacities for successfully raising their children.Engage in ongoing reflective practice and reflective supervision with Supervisor and / or Home Visiting Mentor.Support family by exploring and referring community social services resources and by offering follow up strategies.Encourage parent participation on the Policy Council, parent committees, and other community groups.Maintain accurate, complete records on all assigned families. Respect confidentiality. Meet required reporting responsibilities.Recruit and enroll families into the Early Head Start program.Attend all required staff meetings, and participate in staff training as well as other professional development opportunities.Work both independently and in a team environment.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications : Current Home Visitor CDA (Child Development Credential) from the Council for Professional Recognition or equivalent.One year experience working with children birth-5 and their families.Experience in planning activities, observing children's behavior, and supporting and facilitating parents' learning of their infants / toddlers' development and behavior. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of adult education. Ability to assist parents in devising and implementing strategies which will enable them to maintain or work towards a stable and self-sufficient lifestyle.Demonstrated ability to assess families in a holistic fashion that incorporates education, social services, health, nutrition, and self-sufficiency issues.Ability to work sensitively with low income families of diverse ethnic, language and cultural backgrounds.Knowledge of computer software such as Word or Excel.Willingness to comply with established agency performance standards which may include : productivity / personal responsibility, client / customer service orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurialism, and maintaining a professional demeanor.Willingness to comply with Head Start Standards of Conduct by promoting the unique identity of each child and family; conforming with program confidentiality; following child supervision and guidance policies; and refraining from soliciting or accepting personal gratuities, favors, or anything of significant monetary value from contractors or potential contractors.Must have reliable, independent transportation for frequent travel between sites and to client homes.Current Food Handlers certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).The usual methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands : lifting, carrying, pushing, and / or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, and / or crouching and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing.Desired QualificationsCurrent or former Head Start and Early Head Start parents receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified.Experience working with groups and / or families from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.Bilingual ability preferredRequired CredentialsMust pass Neighborhood House background check requirements.Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.Current Health Exam, Tuberculosis Screening, and record of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or immunity (must be obtained prior to employment).Department of Early Learning portable background checkPost-Hire on-the-job Training RequirementsChild Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).Current First Aid Certificate within 30 days of hire.Current CPR Certificate within 30 days of hire.Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.Current Blood Borne Pathogens training within 30 days of employment (maintain current training status during employment).Current Food Handlers certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).Employment PracticeNeighborhood House is committed to diversity and to equal opportunity employment.
