What are the responsibilities and job description for the Boilermaker Apprentice position at Neighbors and Associates?
Position Summary: Boilermaker Apprentices make and install boilers and other large containers that house gases or liquids such as oil.
Boilermaker Apprentice Duties and Responsibilities:
Reading blueprints.
Casting pieces and bending them into shape.
Welding or bolting pieces together.
Test completed boilers.
Perform routine maintenance.
Ensure equipment is properly shut down and stored securely when not in use.
Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
Loan and unload equipment from vehicles and trailers.
Complete required paperwork, forms, and records as required.
Obeys and follows all safety rules on the job site and encourages others to do the same. This includes wearing protective gear and maintaining active communication with all other construction crew members.
Boilermaker Apprentice Skills and Specifications:
Coordinate machine actions with crew members in response to hand or audio signals.
Ability to operate equipment effectively and within the equipment’s operating capabilities to ensure deadlines of the job are met.
Maintains a good relationship with co-workers and works well with others to accomplish a task.
Ability to work without close supervision once directed on task.
Ability to travel with crew in the course of work 90% of the time.
Boilermaker Apprentice Education and Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Ability to complete the Boilermaker Apprenticeship Training program.
Have a valid driver’s license issued within the United States.
Must be able to pass site-specific background checks and drug screens.
Boilermaker Apprentice Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of Boilermaker Apprentice, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Boilermaker Apprentice Work Environment:
While performing the duties of Boilermaker Apprentice, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

100% traveling position. Hours and pay vary based on the union job site as well as the apprenticeship level attained.
