Position Summary: 

The Senior Manager, Financial Assessment role, holds a prominent position within OAD, reporting to the Sr. Director, Financial & Off Site Analysis. The Senior Manager, Financial Assessments conducts on-site and off-site assessments and produces non-profit business evaluation reports in alignment with the NeighborWorks America assessment methodology.  Senior Manager, Financial Assessments will identify and document organizational successes and areas of risk, including determining areas for improvement and corrective actions. This role leads or supports specialized teams and employs analytical tools, core technical expertise, and evaluation techniques to assess current and prospective network organizations (NWO).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Organizational Assessments:

    • Manage and perform on-site and off-site evaluations of non-profit organizations within the NeighborWorks network.
    • Review performance in areas such as financial health, resource management, governance, personnel, and strategic planning.
    • Assess compliance with NeighborWorks America’s charter agreements.
  • Collaborate with Consultants and Teams:

    • Partner with consultants to analyze resource management and specific business functions.
    • Work with Senior Managers of Financial Analysis to evaluate financial documents, including audits and interim reports.
  • Prepare Reports and Present Findings:

    • Document final assessment reports, including recommendations and areas for improvement.
    • Present preliminary assessment results to senior leadership and board members.
    • Provide summary assessments and health ratings to the Oversight, Health, and Tracking System (OHTS) committee.
  • Promote Continuous Improvement:

    • Identify and share best practices within the network.
    • Assist in updating policies, procedures, and tools to align with organizational and industry standards.
    • Leverage data tools to enhance assessment processes and outputs.
  • Support Training and Development:

    • Provide on-the-job training for new staff and consultants.
    • Design and deliver workshops for staff, consultants, and network organizations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Partner with relationship managers and other NeighborWorks staff to analyze trends and address assessment findings.
    • Participate in cross-divisional initiatives to improve coordination and practices.

Nature of Work Contacts:

Specific contact with Senior Managers, Financial Analysts, and other NWA staff focusing on financial health issues within the network is required. The Senior Manager, Financial Assessments will work with a  high-level of independence and within established departmental guidelines and priorities.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • A minimum of ten (10) years relevant professional experience, preferably in organizations whose core business involves real estate development, asset and property management, lending and homeownership promotion, general community development that involves a diverse array of services through grant-funded programs.
    • Advanced, in-depth experience in developing outcome-based performance evaluations. In-depth experience in evaluating financial statements and demonstrated recent experience in applying financial analysis skills.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in analyzing financial documents, such as audits and financial reports.
    • Strong knowledge of organizational governance, strategic planning, and resource management.
    • Ability to use data tools and analytics to inform assessments and recommendations.
  • Communication & Collaboration:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting findings to senior leadership.
    • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external consultants.
  • Other Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
    • Commitment to advancing affordable housing and community development.
    • Experience in managing projects and meeting deadlines effectively.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Travel up to 25%
  • Fast paced working environment, with extensive computer use and technological communication.
  • Hybrid: this role reports to the DC, NYC, Boston or Kansas City office two days per week

  

Salary Range:

$76,000 - $120,000

The salary offered for the role will be based on a variety of factors, including geographic location, internal equity, and the candidate’s qualifications/professional experience.

Purpose of Division:

The Organizational Assessment Division (OAD) assesses the health of organizations within its network by providing in-depth analyses of financial health and mission delivery to build and advance, a robust, and resilient network. OAD assessments include a review of real estate development, asset management, property management, lending, homeownership promotion, homeownership preservation, and community building and engagement business functions as well as resource management, financial management, board governance, strategic planning, personnel, contract management and technical operating systems. Organizational assessments are a core feature of NeighborWorks America’s stewardship and monitoring of its network members as recipients of federal grant funds.

Salary : $76,000 - $120,000
