Job Summary:
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Concrete Form Setter/Finisher to join our construction team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for building forms, pouring, finishing, and setting concrete for various construction projects. This role requires knowledge of the concrete pouring process, including PSI specifications, formwork, finishing techniques, and ensuring high-quality standards are met for every project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Form Building:
- Construct and set forms (using wood, steel, or plastic) for concrete to be poured, ensuring they are aligned, level, and structurally sound.
- Measure and cut materials accurately to create forms that match project specifications.
- Secure and brace forms properly to withstand the pressure of the poured concrete.
- Concrete Pouring:
- Mix and pour concrete into forms as per specifications.
- Ensure proper PSI (pounds per square inch) requirements for different types of concrete and the project’s structural needs.
- Utilize equipment (e.g., concrete mixers, pumps, or wheelbarrows) to transport and pour concrete into molds, slabs, or foundations.
- Concrete Finishing:
- Use finishing tools such as trowels, screeds, floats, and edgers to smooth and level the surface of the concrete.
- Apply decorative finishes, textures, or patterns to concrete surfaces if required.
- Monitor and control the curing process of the concrete to ensure it achieves the desired strength and durability.
- Reinforcement Placement:
- Install steel reinforcement bars (rebar) or wire mesh within the forms before pouring concrete, ensuring proper placement and alignment for maximum strength.
- Measurement and Quality Control:
- Verify measurements, mix ratios, and alignment to ensure that all concrete pours meet specified PSI requirements.
- Inspect the quality of poured concrete, ensuring it meets strength, texture, and aesthetic specifications.
- Ensure that all work complies with building codes, safety standards, and project specifications.
- Safety and Cleanup:
- Follow all safety guidelines, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, hard hats, and safety glasses.
- Maintain a clean work area and ensure tools and equipment are properly cleaned and stored after use.
- Ensure that the construction site is safe, organized, and free from hazards related to concrete pouring and finishing.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with other team members (e.g., laborers, project managers, supervisors) to complete tasks on time and to the highest quality standards.
- Communicate effectively with the team to troubleshoot any issues with concrete pours, formwork, or finishing.
Qualifications:
- Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in concrete work, including form setting, pouring, and finishing. Experience with PSI requirements and reinforcement installation is highly desirable.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (preferred but not required).
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of formwork construction, pouring techniques, and concrete finishing.
- Ability to read blueprints and project specifications.
- Familiarity with PSI specifications and how to achieve the required strength and quality of concrete.
- Basic math skills for accurate measurements and mixing ratios.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move heavy materials, work outdoors in various weather conditions, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
- Tools Knowledge: Experience with concrete tools, including trowels, floats, screeds, edgers, mixers, and power tools.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of construction site safety practices, including handling concrete and using equipment safely.
Working Conditions:
- Work is typically performed outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift heavy materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs or more).
- Exposure to dusty, noisy environments and the potential for hazardous materials.
- Physical endurance required to perform manual labor, standing, bending, and kneeling for long periods.
- Some overtime or weekend work may be required, depending on project deadlines.
Additional Skills (optional):
- Certification in concrete or construction safety (e.g., OSHA) is a plus.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery (e.g., concrete pumps, forklifts) is desirable but not required.
