Job Summary: Provide educational opportunities and interpretation to visiting school groups, others and guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts field trips and outreach programs for school groups
- Provides interpretation during Outpost Tours
- Assists in training and coaching volunteers and staff
- Designs and conducts summer camps as needed
- Conducts workshops and programs for teachers and the general public as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Supervisory Responsibilities: None

- Provide courteous, professional, timely and accurate service and support to all visitors, vendors, volunteers and co-workers
- Follow policies and procedures; maintain appropriate records, complete administrative tasks correctly and on time
- Maintain proficiency in computer related programs to perform job duties
- Follow safe work procedures, ensure all volunteers and visitors follow safe procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions, notify supervisor of damages, defects, or the need for repairs that could prevent deterioration of equipment or possible injury to employees or others
- Observe scheduled work hours

Experience: K- 8 grade teaching experience, preferably science or environmental field
Education: Bachelors degree required. Texas or Louisiana Teacher Certification required.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals. Must be a team player able to work comfortably and effectively in cross-functional teams.
Other Skills:
- Ability to devise and carry out education programs, including preparation and use of publications and exhibits
- Knowledge of environmental education techniques and resources
- Knowledge of the learning characteristics of students and adults
- Skill in oral and written communication techniques appropriate for various education levels
- Knowledge of the objectives, curricula, and operation of schools and other educational institutions
- Skill in using research techniques
- Knowledge of education methods
- Ability to keep accurate and detailed records
- Ability to plan, implement and prioritize workloads
- Knowledge of emergency evacuation; First Aid training
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. The successful candidate must possess the ability to transport self at least three miles per day in an outdoor situation. Requires moving on and off of boats and moving along boardwalks within swamps.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work with students and teachers in class-size groups under a variety of conditions including inside in museums and theaters, and outside in natural ecosystems. Approximately 80% of time outside in a swamp ecosystem in both hot and cold weather. These areas are commonly wet, humid, extremely hot or cold. Noise levels are generally quiet. Environment includes blooming plants, plant saps, fertilizers and other possible allergens. Tasks may require exposure to insects, snakes and other wildlife according to prevailing habitat conditions.
