Job Title: Newspaper Pagination/Graphic Designer
Location: Work from home or at the Linn News / Journal-Eureka office in Eastern Iowa
Schedule: Weekly newspapers produced and finalized every Tuesday
Overview:
We are looking for a skilled and dependable Newspaper Pagination/Graphic Designer to handle the layout and design of two weekly newspapers — the Linn News and the Journal-Eureka — both produced on Tuesdays. This is not an entry-level role — only applicants with direct experience in newspaper layout and production will be considered.
You’ll be responsible for paginating both papers, creating and placing ads, laying out legal notices, and ensuring all content is clean, organized, and ready to go to press each week. The work can be done remotely or from our Eastern Iowa office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lay out full newspaper pages in Adobe InDesign for both publications
- Design display and classified ads; format and place legal notices correctly
- Collaborate with editorial staff on placement of stories, headlines, and photos
- Create compelling front pages and consistent interior layouts
- Prepare print-ready files and ensure visual quality and accuracy
- Follow formatting rules for public and legal notices
- Organize templates, digital assets, and previous issues for efficient workflow
- Occasionally support digital or social media graphics if needed
Requirements:
- Experience designing and paginating newspapers is REQUIRED
- High proficiency in Adobe InDesign; working knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator
- Familiarity with typesetting, layout principles, and print design standards
- Strong understanding of legal/public notice formatting
- Must meet firm Tuesday deadlines with no exceptions
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and file organization
- Ability to work independently and communicate with team members
- Bonus: Experience with CorelDraw or sign/layout design is a plus
