JOB TITLE : RN Nurse Auditor DEPARTMENT : Nursing
JOB RELATIONSHIPS :
Responsible to : Director of Nursing and / or Pharmacy Nurse
Responsible for : Does not supervise other employees
Interrelationships : Works cooperatively with all hospital
Departments and the Medical Staff.
JOB SUMMARY :
Responsible for the overall improvement of the quality, completeness and
accuracy of the clinical documentation in the medical record. This position will promote
appropriate clinical documentation through extensive interaction with physicians,
nursing staff, HIM and the business office. You will ensure that the organization is
charging its patients fairly. You will confirm that the billing procedure is consistent
with the applicable regulations. You will review the medical record to check if the
patients were administered the treatments as ordered and billed accordingly. You will be
responsible for minimizing the incidences of wrongly overcharging the patients.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Experience : Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
Education : A graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
Req. Cert. /
Registration : Current Kansas Registered Nurse License or Pharmacist license.
JOB DUTIES (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)
- Be familiar with common medical terminologies, concepts, treatments, and test.
- Ability to compile, sort, extract and format voluminous data
- Communicate with and help coordinate education on documentation / charges with co-workers at all levels
- Inspect the medical records
- Ensure consistency between the treatments administered and the expenses charged
- Find the charts that were overcharged for expenses and make necessary changes
- Prepare reports, including details of the discrepancies and relevant recommendations for improvements
- Educate involved staff on any discrepancies with regards to accuracy, completeness, etc.
- Make certain the organization fulfills its duties in accord to the set rules, standards and protocols
- Acts as a backup for the Pharmacy Nurse
