Job Overview
The Refrigeration Technician shall be responsible for performing daily routine maintenance and service repairs on refrigeration systems. Shall also be responsible for overseeing the replacement of systems or replacement parts for existing units according to specifications and established safety guidelines. As the refrigeration technician, this role supports the project manager with providing technical expertise in support of refrigeration operations. The equipment serviced contains specialized electric and/or mechanical control devices including highly complex temperature and humidity sensors, air velocities, and relative humidity. Components and parts include temperature sensing elements, recorders, and thermostats; a variety of different types of valves, compressors, evaporators, air handlers, fuses, wiring, relays, high- and low-pressure switches and other controls, defrost timers, refrigerant lines, coils, condenser fans, fan motors, filters, door gaskets and other mechanical components, etc.
Support Hours: Applicant shall be available during core work hours as established the Government customer.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs the full range of work involved with repair, maintenance, overhaul, and servicing of refrigeration systems.
- Must be able to recognize the cause of faulty equipment and be able to independently plan the work, select tools, supplies, parts and materials to accomplish the work necessary to correct deficiencies.
- Must be able to modify and balance various elements of systems that are designed to meet a variety of extreme and critical conditions to include medical bay climate-controlled areas that house medical supplies.
- Must be able to operate, adjust and repair refrigeration systems, which are controlled by computer, based systems, such as direct digital, microprocessor, electro pneumatic, electronic and automated logic systems.
- Must be able to read schematics, drawings or blueprints when required. May dismantle, repair and reassemble units such as compressors, pumps, valves, fans and bearings.
- May be required to do soldering or welding to accomplish the installation according to standard trade practices.
- Must be able to balance airflow and water flow to specifications.
- Repair of Direct Drive Controllers (DDC) and Variable Air Volume Controllers (VAV) and upgrading, programming for control systems.
- Inspect equipment to detect wear, damage, pressure leaks, correct voltage and amperes on all equipment.
- Diagnoses problems of any nature, obtains necessary parts, electrical or mechanical, adjusts, repairs or replaces electrical, electronic, mechanical and pneumatic controls that are an integral part of the various air conditioning units.
- Participate in installing large units, single and dual semi-hermetic compressors ranging from 60 to 100-ton units.
- Utilize work orders, blueprints, sketches, manufacturers’ publications and technical manual in accomplishing work.
- Check equipment periodically to detect evidence of wear, damage, abuse and other defects, to determine if equipment is functioning properly and to determine repairs and services required.
- Make on the spot repairs such as replacing parts, making adjustments, replacing filters, and cleaning and lubrication. Records results of inspections, repairs and services performed, additional repairs and adjustments required, supplies and materials used, time required, work unit completed, etc.
- Test electrical currents or components for continuity using electrical test equipment.
- Test pipe or tubing joints or connections for leaks using a pressure gauge or soap-and-water solution.
- Reassembly and test equipment following repairs.
- Layout and connect electrical wiring between controls and equipment, according to wiring diagrams, using electrician's hand tools.
- Comply with all applicable standards, policies, and procedures, including safety procedures and the maintenance of a clean work area.
- Job requires escorting of subcontractors.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements/Education:
- Must be able work with DDC controls, familiar with Balley, Trane, Carrier, and Taylor Wharton CO2 tank with dry ice capabilities.
- Must have a strong background in servicing Bally and Trane rooftop refrigeration units, specifically with single and dual semi-hermetic compressors ranging from 42 HP for 60 to 100-ton units.
- Familiarity with Emerson DDC controls and dry ice production through tanks will be essential in this role.
- High school diploma or equivalent General Educational Development (GED) Certificate.
- Knowledge of acceptable maintenance procedures and understanding of occupational safety and health regulations.
- Must have and maintain state licenses/certifications.
- Must have a valid state driver's license with no major infractions.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a Refrigeration Mechanic.
- A valid driver's license.
- Reliable transportation to work.
- Must be able to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to perform each bullet point task in the position summary.
- Communicate effectively in a positive, professional manner with coworkers, clients, and visitors.
- Following instructions, both verbal and written.
- Read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer's recommendations for equipment.
- Safely operate hand tools and power-hand tools and complete roof inspections required by assignments.
- Computer skills for record-keeping in computerized maintenance management systems.
- Attend training as scheduled and/or required.
- It is mandatory that all Contractor personnel working onsite at federal facilities meet federal government security clearance standards.
- Pass Background check with the Department of Homeland Security.
