Position: Materials Developer
Reports to: Product Development Director
Location: Dover, NH
Overview:
This is an opportunity to join a product-driven, well-respected outdoor brand to help carry on a legacy of design innovation. The Material Developer will report to the Product Development Director and work closely with our entire Product and Quality teams to support NEMO’s ever-evolving product offering. The primary responsibility of this Developer is to be a materials expert, assisting with material needs and the development of new solutions.
The ideal candidate would have a wide range of material development experience, including roles in outerwear, footwear, and industries outside of traditional hard goods.
Please note that, COVID depending, domestic and international travel may be required several times per year to visit contract manufacturers and material suppliers in support of product development efforts. This position may require extended work hours prior to concept reviews, tech package handoffs, and other product creation milestones.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Textile Science, Engineering or Design, Industrial Design, or Materials Science
5 years of experience in product innovation and material development for the outdoor industry (technical apparel and/or equipment)
Strong understanding of textile and trims manufacturing, including dying, finishing, printing, molding, etc.
In-depth knowledge of performance woven water-repellant and waterproof textiles, coatings, and laminations
Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to materials and sustainability
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
Highly flexible and adaptable when faced with ambiguity
Proactive in identifying the root cause of issues, seeking the best (sometimes not the easiest) solutions with an unwavering commitment to do what is right
Exceptional communication skills, including a proven ability to communicate findings to both scientists and nonscientists
Experience traveling and working directly with mills, materials fabricators, technology providers and factories in global locations domestically and overseas
