Nemours Children's Health is seeking a Research Technologist, Principal to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Orlando, FL. The Principal Research Technologist works independently as discussed with the Principal Investigator.
Oversee projects within the laboratory and assumes significant responsibility for the day-to-day operation of lab activities, including the design of research studies and experiments.
Monitors results, responds to unusual outcomes / errors, develops, and implements modifications.
Contributes to the development of research projects and research protocols.
Develops SOP's, collects, enters, analyzes, and interprets data.
Performs statistical analysis as needed.
Possesses advanced knowledge of lab practices and directs and teaches others in lab practices.
Provides scientific leadership for lab operations and staff.
Serves as a mentor to lab staff.
Possesses extensive knowledge in specialized field of study.
Contributes significantly to grant proposals.
Authors and co-authors publications.
Presents at National Meetings.
Participates and presents at research laboratory meetings.
Participate in appropriate professional development activities. Essential Functions 1.
Oversee all projects and operations of the laboratory including developing all laboratory policies and SOP's. 2.
Contributes to the creation of research projects and sets-up the required equipment and supplies required.
Collaborates with scientific and medical community as needed. 3.
Maintains scientific knowledge and understanding of peer-reviewed publications for application to current methodologies. 4.
Help the Principal Investigator prepare presentations for scientific meetings, describing research methodology and results; preparation of manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals; and preparation of grant applications. 5.
Serve on designated department committees and work groups at the discretion of the PI and / or Research Leadership. 6.
Understand and demonstrates safe use and operation of lab equipment. 7.
Understand and is knowledgeable of Nemours safety policies, procedures and ensures all lab safety requirements are met. 8.
Engage in and actively follows the five Nemours Associate Core Competencies - Cultural Stewardship; Relationship Management; Commitment to Improvement and Quality; Effective Communication and Champions Change. 9.
Completes annual Nemours mandatory training as assigned. 10.
Perform additional miscellaneous lab duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by associate's supervisor. Requirements Master of Science Degree required; PhD or MD preferred Minimum of 6 years significant laboratory experience required; 10 years of significant laboratory experience preferred The research scientist for this project will need, at minimum, an MS (10 years) or a PhD (3 years) in cell and molecular biology (or related field) with demonstrated experience in advanced molecular biology and protein chemistry techniques and the ability to function independently without significant training.
The candidate will conduct all technical aspects of research projects, including animal experiments, bench-based experimental activities, independent analysis of results, and reporting conclusions to the principal investigator.
Candidates must be able to troubleshoot problems and help develop solutions to technical problems of moderate to high scope using independent thinking, literature, and colleagues as resources to solve problems.
The candidate is expected to apply broad professional knowledge of procedures and concepts and act independently to determine methods and procedures on new assignments.
Experience supervising junior staff and interns, coordinating multiple data streams, and author / co-author publications are also required.
This position supports the cancer biology and oncolytic therapy research program.
