Job Description
The surgical technologist facilitates the operative or other invasive procedure by preparing and providing the required sterile instruments, supplies and equipment. Maintains the sterile field and anticipates and responds to the needs of the surgical team.
This primary position at Nemours Children’s Hospital, Surgery Center, Malvern will include collaboration with the Nemours Children’s Hospital, Delaware and Nemours Children’s Hospital, Surgery Center, Deptford to optimize available resources in achieving optimal patient outcomes. This position may require periodic rotation to these facilities. Travel is compensated based on organizational policy.
This position is expected to maintain all state and federal clearances for PA, DE, and NJ for periodic rotation to the facilities in Delaware and New Jersey at the discretion of Perioperative Leadership. This includes current Pennsylvania (PA) FBI Fingerprint Report, PA Criminal Background Record, and PA Child Abuse Clearance.
This position requires working shifts aligned with the needs of the department and the assigned FTE of the surgical technologist
Schedule: full-time, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7:00 am - 5:30 pm, No Weekends, No Holidays, No Call

Responsibilities
- Functions as a scrub person during operative and other invasive procedures by assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
- Participates in pre-procedure operating room set-up adhering to established reliable method.
- Confirms, prepares, and organizes requested sterile supplies and instruments for procedures with inspection and confirmation of supply and instrument sterility.
- Performs accounting procedures in concert with the circulating nurse per organizational policies and procedures activating escalation and taking corrective action as needed.
- Assists with preparation and placement of sterile drapes.
- Provides instruments and supplies in a safe manner to the surgical team during procedures.
- Maintains a safe and organized back table and sterile field.
- Ensures sterility of the surgical field taking activating escalation and corrective action as needed.
- Prepares sterile dressings upon completion of final surgical count.
- Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for processing and transport to the sterile processing decontamination area per organizational policy and procedure
- Participates in post-procedure operating room turn over process adhering to established reliable method.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of Surgical Technologist Program required
- American Heart Association BLS required
