Energy Engineer I, II, III (Midwest or South Region Preferred)

Position Summary
The Energy Engineer participates in the auditing and development of energy efficiency and renewable and resiliency energy projects. This includes, but is not limited to, performing on-site energy audits, creating customer reports, investigating utility incentives, calculating energy savings, compiling costing workbook and building cash flow, writing technical reports, monitoring variables that drive energy calculations, and working with sales and development to present audit findings to the customer and discuss energy conservation measures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
▪ Perform on-site energy efficiency audits that are focused on mechanical systems, control systems , water conservation, and lighting energy efficiency opportunities.
▪ Assist with the investigation and development for microgrids and/or other resiliency solutions
▪ Complete historical utility billing analysis and facility benchmarking analysis.
▪ Conduct meetings with customers to gain an understanding of each customer’s needs and wants
and incorporate this understanding into our energy conservation measure designs.
▪ Based off of information gained during on-site audit, recommend energy-efficiency measures.
▪ Complete Energy Conservation Measure (ECM) energy calculations, savings projections and ECM narrative descriptions.
▪ Accountable for Utility incentive calculations, completing incentive applications and managing
the utility incentive process though receiving incentive payment.
▪ Co-present audit/design findings to Customer along with Project Development Staff.
▪ Build strong relationships with equipment suppliers, mechanical contractors and control contractors.
▪ Collaborate with construction team to ensure original design intent is adhered to throughout implementation
▪ Develop and implement data logging (collection) plan to capture equipment operating times,
flows, energy consumption, temperatures, etc. Utilize this information to help shape project scope as well as for savings validation..
Requirements
Education
▪ High School diploma or equivalent - Required
▪ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Energy Engineering -Required
Experience
▪ At least 5 years experience in an Energy or Mechanical Engineering role - Preferred
▪ Previous experience working on energy efficiency audits and/or construction projects in commercial and industrial facilities - Required
▪ Previous experience working with Utility Sponsored Energy-Efficiency Rebates - Preferred
▪ Previous experience working with Excel based modeling and/or other industry software - Preferred
Certifications and Licenses
▪ Engineer in Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE) – Preferred
▪ Any Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) accreditations (CEM, CMVP, etc.) - Preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
▪ Energy efficiency methodology; in-depth knowledge base
▪ Technical report writing; demonstrated ability to successfully write technical reports; history of producing clear and complete reports.
▪ Energy modeling; demonstrated ability to develop Excel based energy modeling on mechanical and electrical systems
▪ Communication; demonstrated ability to successfully communicate across all ‘levels’ of an organization
▪ Flexible and adaptable; demonstrated ability to quickly and effectively shift priorities and a history of being open to change
▪ Results driven; able to make timely and effective decisions; produce results through strategic planning and evaluation
▪ Customer-Focused; a history of meeting or exceeding customer expectations and developing positive customer relationships
▪ Industry knowledge; in-depth knowledge of construction trade and the proven ability to apply knowledge to perform a wide array of jobs activities and elevate operational effectiveness.
▪ Planning; demonstrated ability to effectively set priorities, establish timelines, and leverage resources
▪ Quality Control; has high standards for quality and holds others accountable to a high quality of work; proven ability to establish and monitor quality measures as well as a take corrective actions.
▪ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
Travel
▪ Occasional (25-50% of the time) travel is required; mostly regionally (Mid-West and/or Central United States)
