The Role: As a key member of our Hardware team, you’ll be leading the system wide efforts of our current and next generation robotics system. The Senior Manager of Systems Engineering is responsible for growing and managing the Systems Engineering teams as well as acting as the technical lead for systems related efforts. This individual will lead two teams: System Robotics and Systems Integration and Test. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: system architecture and requirement definition, system modeling and simulation, analysis tool development, proof of concept development, calibration tools development, fixture development, integration and test activities, and verification and validation activities. This position reports to the Vice President of Hardware Engineering.
What you’ll do:
- Manage and grow 2 teams of engineers toward the design and development of our surgical robots.
- Work with the leadership team to establish project plans and allocate resources according to department priorities. Ensure project timelines are met across the teams.
- Define and develop system architecture and drive cross-disciplinary architecture trade-offs.
- Drive system and subsystem requirements definition. Establish Key Performance Indicators.
- Lead modeling, simulation of robotic architectures, e.g. kinematic analysis, multi-body dynamics, calibration and optimization, and control algorithms.
- Create system and subsystem budget (precision, accuracy, tolerances…)
- Develop and maintain analysis, modeling and simulation tools.
- Directly contribute to product development by proposing novel solutions and approaches for enhanced system performance such as computer vision, machine learning…
- Perform risk analysis to help guide the design of safe medical devices.
- Generate high-quality technical documentation, for both establishment of new solutions, and continuous development of existing designs.
- Lead integration and bring up efforts of new prototype products.
- Drive the design and development of testing processes, test plans and associated fixtures and software tools.
- Effectively work with cross-functional teams including mechanical, software, and electrical engineers as well as clinical, project management, product development, and marketing staff
- Support, improve, and educate regarding Verification and Validation activities.
- Follow-up with lifecycle teams (quality, manufacturing, operation) to ensure newly introduced products or processes maintain a high standard of reliability and performance.
What you’ll bring:
- BS Engineering in Robotics, Electrical, or related engineering, plus a minimum of 8 years of industry experience or PhD Engineering degree plus 6 years of experience.
- At least 3 years experience leading an engineering team.
- Demonstrated experience in Systems engineering.
- Exceptional knowledge in Robotics with proven experience of bringing robotics products to market.
- Experience with Medical devices preferred.
- Experience in handling multi-disciplinary teams/projects (i.e. Electrical, Mechanical and Software Engineers) preferred
- Experience with Computer vision is a plus.
- Experience with the following regulations preferred: ISO 13485 -Medical Devices Quality Management Systems – Requirements for Regulatory Purposes, IEC 60601-1, ISO 14971

- This position manages the Systems Robotics and Systems Integration and Test teams. This position’s responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; developing and promoting employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- This is a full-time position. This position occasionally requires long hours and weekend work.
- The position will require (10%) travel in and out of state
- The regular use of CMMs and machining equipment and the occasional use of CBCT scanners.
- Prolonged periods working on a computer.
- Ability to lift/push/carry items up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent exposure to loud/moderate noise
