Job Overview
A neonatal nurse practitioner's (NNP) primary job purpose is to provide advanced, specialized care to critically ill newborns, primarily in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), by assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing complex medical conditions while also educating and supporting the families of high-risk infants; this includes performing procedures, prescribing medications, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal care for fragile newborns.
Duties
- 3-24 hour shifts In-house per pay period.
- Attend high risk deliveries.
- Attend all cesarean deliveries if requested (Neonatologists attend all cesarean deliveries)
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including history taking and physical examinations.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs.
- Provide care for patients with infectious diseases, ensuring appropriate treatment protocols are followed.
- Facilitate discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions of care for patients leaving the facility.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated care and improve patient outcomes.
- Educate patients and their families about health conditions, treatment options, and preventive measures.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing or related field from an accredited program.
- Current Nurse Practitioner certification and state licensure to practice as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Experience as Neonatology Nurse.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Commitment to providing compassionate patient-centered care while adhering to safety standards.
- Intubations.
- Chest tube placement.
- Central line placement.
