ONLY CANDIDATES LOCAL TO TEXAS NEED APPLY, FULLY REMOTE FROM TEXAS ONLY Job Description - The position would perform data modeling which includes data analysis and data architecture work along with designing and developing / enhancing database systems for software projects included in the Mainframe Transformation Program at the Railroad Commission of Texas (RRC). The focus of the work is to elicit requirements and analyze existing data and systems for the purpose of creating or enhancing existing database solutions to transform legacy systems data to modern normalized database solutions. The position requires knowledge and background in MS SQL Server, Oracle, and Mainframe IMS Hierarchical databases, significant experience in development of data modeling documentation, as well as awareness of the full environment technical stack of Microsoft SSIS, Informatica, MuleSoft, COBOL, Java, Salesforce, .NET, Oracle, Snowflake and GoAnywhere.Duties involve the use of multiple methods in gathering, developing, and documenting requirements; the review, assessment, and development of data models / designs, which includes design documentation; the creation and validation of user acceptance testing; and research and special project support provided to users. This role will work under minimal to moderate direction, with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Responsibilities and Skills include :
- Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle
- Determines and documents database requirements by analyzing business operations, applications, and programming; reviewing business objectives; and evaluating current systems to create or improve database solutions.
- Based on requirements, develops and implements data models for new projects, and maintains and / or enhances existing data models and data architectures.
- Creates graphics and other flow diagrams (including ERD) to show complex database design and database modeling more simply.
- Develops data structures for transactional systems; and
- Provides guidance for business intelligence systems, as required.
- Implements new database solutions and / or corresponding database changes to support new and modified applications and ensures that new designs conform to data standards and guidelines; are consistent, normalized, and perform as required; and are secure from unauthorized access or update.
- Creation of technical documentation for process and interface documentation
- Follows guidelines on creating data models and various standards relating to governed data. This includes the ability to appropriately classify personally identifiable information.
- Collects, queries, and analyzes data using standard database tools, applications, methods, and techniques for the purposes of creating normalized database solutions.
- Knowledgeable of Change Data Capture (CDC) for bulk data movement
- Ability to promote code from development environments to production
- Familiarity with GitHub or equivalent version control systems
