UPWARD BOUND ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT
Reports to: Upward Bound Director
Classification: Full-time, 12-month Employee, Grant-Funded
Pay Status: Hourly, Level III, Non-exempt

The purpose of the Neosho County Community College Upward Bound program is to assist high school students in achieving academically, growing personally, and developing the necessary skills to succeed in higher education. We meet with students weekly at their school, provide cultural experiences or workshops every month, and host a College Simulation Experience each summer. We also offer tutoring and advising year-round.
The full-time Upward Bound Administrative Assistant will work cooperatively with the NCCC Upward Bound staff in all aspects of program operation. Duties will include office management, chaperoning students, co-visits to area high schools, and assistance with report preparation.

Essential Functions
- Provide premier quality service to all constituencies of the College.
- Engage in continuous quality improvement and professional development.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare routine correspondence, newsletters, and reports.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and student database, including documentation of student eligibility, academic records, contacts, exit, and follow-up information, etc.
- Prepare annual reports using files and databases that are kept up to date throughout the year.
- Assist in planning and implementing program activities and events.
- Visit target high schools with the Academic Coordinator and Director.
- Chaperone student activities, events, and occasional overnight field trips.
- Tutor area high schools and coordinate Saturday Academy activities.
- Maintain accurate office files and records, including budget information, purchase orders, and statistical information. Keep monthly paper copies of summary information.
- Maintain a pleasant, professional, and welcoming demeanor; maintain an office atmosphere conducive to meeting the needs of disadvantaged students.
- Maintain the confidentiality of participant and staff information learned while completing duties.
Additional Responsibilities
- May welcome and screen office visitors and telephone calls.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficient in basic office procedures and office technology, including computer applications such as Microsoft Word & Excel and Google Suite.
- Organized and able to handle multiple responsibilities well.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to relate well to students.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of program, staff, and participant information.
- Ability to appropriately exercise independent initiative and judgment.
- Must have a valid Kansas Driver’s License with the ability to drive a 12-passenger van (with training).
Education and Experience
- Two or more years of successful college classes are required; a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
- Two to four years of work experience is required; administrative or educational experience is preferred.
- Freedom from racial/ethnic/socioeconomic biases is required.
- Background similar to participants is preferred.
Working Conditions
- Typical office working environment.
- The ability to operate typical office equipment such as copiers, fax machines, and personal computers is required.
- The ability to drive a college vehicle (car, van, etc.) to and from school visits, field trips, and similar activities is required.
- Occasional evening, weekend, and overnight working hours as a chaperone or working with students in various activities are required. Compensatory time will be given.
- Some travel via car, bus, or other transportation will be required when chaperoning students.
