The Physician Assistant (PA) coordinates the provision of medical care in the Emergency Department in the absence of a physician and collaborates with other professionals and hospital departments to meet the needs of patients. The care given by the Physician Assistant is guided by the medical staff delineation of privileges and hospital credentialing processes, hospital policies and procedures, applicable laws and standards, and the scope of the Physician Assistant license.

The Nurse Practitioner (APRN) coordinates the provision of medical care in the emergency services area in the absence of a physician and collaborates with other professionals and hospital departments to meet the needs of patients. The care given by the Nurse Practitioner is guided by the medical staff delineation of privileges and hospital credentialing processes, hospital policies and procedures, applicable laws and standards, and the scope of the Nurse Practitioner’s license.

- Meets the requirements of NMRMC credentialing.
- In the general practice of emergency medicine.
- Of the operations of the emergency medical services system.
- Of the laws and ordinances pertaining to emergency medical services.
- Of educational principles and techniques.
- Of practices and techniques of report to review and analysis.
SKILL:
- To perform the duties of an emergency care physician.
- In the formulation of medical procedures.
- In communicating highly technical medical information.
- In performing case reviews.
- To establish effective working relationships among individuals and organizations.
- To perform medical procedures.
- To work well with volunteers.

- Initiate appropriate treatment, perform procedures, administer medication, and perform patient education.
- Maintain control of pre-hospital care of patients and/or victims by radio contact with the ambulance.
- Work cooperatively with Nursing Services personnel to ensure the smooth operation of Emergency Services.
- Delegate patient care responsibilities according to the level of care required.

- Preferred, but not required.
