Summary
The Audio-Visual Technician is responsible for setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting audio-visual equipment for various events and educational activities across the school district. This role supports school events, assemblies, meetings, and other related technology needs. The technician will work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate after-school events, conferences, and other scheduled activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
AV Equipment Setup and Maintenance
- Set up, operate, and maintain AV equipment, including projectors, microphones, sound systems and lighting systems for school functions, meetings, and classrooms.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently during live events to avoid disruptions.
- Ensure AV systems are fully functional and test equipment prior to events.

Qualifications
Education / Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (required). Associate degree or certification in AV technology, IT, or a related field (preferred).
Minimum of 2 years in AV support, ideally in an education or event setting.
Skills and Abilities
Language
Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences, technical manuals, trade journals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, system documentation, etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence.
Computation
Must be able to collect and interpret data to evaluate program usage and instructional impact. Basic math skills, such as addition / subtraction, multiplication / division will also be required.
Reasoning
Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements. Ability to develop long term goals and objectives.
Technology
Considerable knowledge of the appropriate uses of technology for instruction in various subject areas. Knowledge of the current literature, trends and developments in the field of instructional technology will also be required.
Additional Skills and Abilities
Requires the ability to work cooperatively with a team. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with persons acting under stress.
Physical Demands
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computer hardware and software, office equipment, etc. Must be physically able to operate motor vehicles. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are for Light Work.
Also requires the ability to talk and hear : (Talking : expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing : perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able to communicate via telephone.
Attendance
Regular attendance is essential in being available to support the needs of staff members. Travel to and from buildings in the district, as well as travel for professional development outside the district is required.
