Job Title: Parents as Teachers Parent Educator
The Neosho School District is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to serve as a Parents as Teachers Parent Educator. This role is responsible for providing high-quality parent education to families with children from birth to kindergarten entry.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, Provide and Document Home Visits: Conduct regular home visits to provide parents with education, support, and resources to promote their child's development.
- Flexible Schedule: Possess a flexible schedule to accommodate the scheduling of visits, including evening visits one to two nights per week.
- Yearly Developmental Screenings: Conduct yearly developmental screenings to assess the child's progress and identify areas for support.
- Recruitment and Group Activities: Participate in the recruitment of families and plan and attend group connection activities to foster a sense of community and connection among parents.
- Professional Development: Complete required annual professional development hours to stay up-to-date on best practices and research-based interventions.
- Organizational and Independent Skills: Demonstrate exceptional organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
- Education: Meet one of the following criteria:
- Four-year degree in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education, Vocational Home Economics, Family and Consumer Sciences, or Child Development, with demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents.
- Two-year associate degree or two-year certificate program in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Nursing, with demonstrated ability in working with young children and their parents.
- Sixty semester hours or more of credit from an academic degree-granting institution within the United States Department of Education's Directory of Post-Secondary Institutions, with two years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents.
- Five years of successful experience in a program working with young children and their parents, with a high school diploma or equivalent.
All Parent Educators must successfully complete week-long certification training through the Parents as Teachers National Center.
