Job Mission

The Librarian will instill a love of learning and empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information.The Librarian will help to develop in each pupil an appreciation of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math, recognize and develop the talents and curiosity of students, and engage students in creative activities. The Librarian will provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library and program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The job of Librarian will blend the skillset of a librarian with the ability of an instructional designer with the goal of applying technology and concepts appropriately into the teaching and learning process. The librarian will be well versed in the use of technology as an instructional tool for students and a professional growth tool for teachers.

  • Deliver curriculum through project-based learning (PBL) that meets state standards for grade appropriate learning.
  • Manage the physical and virtual library space.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and implement lessons and units of instruction and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness, partnering with them in the instructional process.
  • Evaluate, promote and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem solving to improve work processes.
  • Analyze data and adapt teaching methods and strategies to maximize student achievement.
  • Maintain and incorporate the best research in instructional materials and techniques.
  • Remain current in professional practices and developments, information technologies, and educational research applicable to school library programs.
  • Teach and promote digital citizenship and responsible use of digital and print resources.

Planning for Instruction :

  • Set short-term and year-long goals for curricular units based on sound principles and practices of learning; monitor progress toward goals and objectives
  • Identify and apply educational and technology-related research, the psychology of learning, and instructional design principles in guiding use of technology in education. Identify, implement, and investigate software.
  • Understand and be able to design, develop, assess, and manage learning experiences.
  • Work as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Use of Materials and Equipment :

    Integrate current technologies as tools to enhance instructional strategies and increase student learning. Manage inventory of the Library and project supplies / tools. Manage the library budget.

    Effectiveness of Instruction :

  • Promote a high level of active learning through setting high standards and clear goals. Modify instruction to help all students achieve those standards.
  • Maintain systems of assessment and measurements, which reflect progress in achieving instructional objectives.
  • Learning Environment :

  • Foster a creative, flexible environment so that the school library is an essential part of the learning community.
  • Establish an atmosphere that encourages sensitivity and respect among students and staff.
  • Design instructional experiences in which students achieve high standards and optimize their performance by taking responsibility for their own learning.
  • Evaluate, promote and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning.
  • Effective Organizational Relationships :

  • Maintain open and effective communication with students, parents, staff and administration using expected professional standards.
  • Participate actively in team / department / staff meetings.
  • Work in partnership with teachers, staff, community partners, and other mentor organizations to provide consistent effective teaching with technology, engagement, lesson plan design, use of technology, and online tools.
  • Supervisory Duties

    Supervise students at all times.

    Qualifications

    Education / Experience

    Master's Degree

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

    Valid Missouri certificate, Library Media Specialist, K-12
