POSITION TITLE:
Medical Technologist/Technician

Laboratory Manager
Summary:
Provides information for diagnosis, treatment, and the prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, and analyses.
Essential Job Function: Determines normal and abnormal components of body fluids by conducting testing of blood and urine.
- Analyzes urine by counting and identifying cells, casts, crystals and artifacts using microscopic techniques and procedures.
- Ensures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by following manufacturer's recommendations for day to day operation, quality controls, calibrating, completing preventive maintenance requirements, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, and maintaining equipment inventories.
- Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
- Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment & supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Provides medical technology information by answering questions and requests.
- Prepares reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Maintains inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.
- Maintains patient confidentiality & protects Nephrology Associates by keeping information confidential.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Has the flexibility in their work schedule to open the laboratory and perform the start-up duties or close the laboratory at the end of the day.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must show Organization, Attention to Detail, Ability to provide information to other associates.
- Must have the ability to analyze information.
- Knowledge of Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis Techniques.
- Have ability to acknowledge when lab equipment has failures and needs maintenance.
- Must have good documentation skills.
- Must have knowledge of OSHA and CLIA Health Regulations.
- Must possess Medical Laboratory Technology skills
- Must have basic computer skills.
Education: 1-3 years of experience in the laboratory, technology field is preferred.
- ASCP certified is required.
- Must have an active TN state license.
- An Associate degree as a Medical Technician or a Bachelor degree as a Medical Technologist is required.Work Conditions: Office environment.
- Be able to work in a Laboratory environment.
- Hours: Mon thru Fri 11 AM-6 PM
