The Director of Manufacturing Engineering will be responsible for providing strategic and tactical leadership to the manufacturing engineering team, overseeing all aspects of manufacturing process development, implementation, and improvement. This includes leading initiatives related to process optimization, cost reduction, quality control, and the introduction of new manufacturing technologies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in manufacturing, a proven track record of successful leadership, and a deep understanding of lean manufacturing principles, and experience with high-rate production electro-mechanical fabrication and assembly. This is a highly visible role that requires excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, which will include the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the manufacturing/process/controls engineering teams, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
- Develop and implement manufacturing strategies, processes, and procedures to optimize production efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Oversee the design, development, and implementation of tooling, fixtures, and equipment required for manufacturing operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using lean manufacturing methodologies (e.g., Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping) to eliminate waste and improve process flow.
- Collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to ensure seamless integration of product designs into manufacturing processes.
- Develop and manage the engineering budget, ensuring effective resource allocation.
- Lead the introduction and implementation of new manufacturing technologies and processes.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to address manufacturing issues and improve product quality.
- Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor manufacturing performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements in manufacturing technologies and processes.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must have a Bachelor’s degree (STEM) AND 15 years’ experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline OR a Master’s degree (STEM) AND 12 years’ experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Must have 5 years of management or leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, including machining, fabrications, assembly, and testing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and other relevant engineering tools.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or Black Belt).
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage cross-functional teams.
