Job Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Agronomist to join our team. The Research Agronomist, in collaboration with the Breeding Team, works to design and implement a camelina research trial program to develop commercial camelina varieties and best agronomic practices. This position is part of a team of professional research agronomists. The Research Agronomist assists with the planning and execution of a field breeding program, including off-site yield trials and nurseries, for breeding and agronomic protocols to improve camelina yields. The Research Agronomist is also responsible for assisting with yield trial data review and resource organization.
Responsibilities
- Conduct field trials and experiments to assess the performance of various crops and farming techniques.
- Collect and analyze data related to soil health, crop genetics, and environmental conditions.
- Utilize machine learning algorithms and statistical software such as R for data analysis and modeling.
- Design experimental protocols for greenhouse and laboratory settings to test hypotheses related to crop production.
- Collaborate with farmers to provide recommendations on crop management practices based on research findings.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in agronomy, genetics, and sustainable farming practices.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations of findings for stakeholders, including farmers and agricultural organizations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Experience in a plant breeding program including small or field-scale plots and nursery research methods required
- Demonstrated knowledge in crop production and seed production required
- Demonstrated experience leading seasonal employees preferred
- Knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Education and Experience:
- BSc in Agriculture or related degree in Biological Sciences required
- 3 years of experience in a plant breeding program including small or field-scale plots and nursery research methods
- Demonstrated knowledge of research equipment use, repair and maintenance
- Ability to attain CDL within 3 months of hire
- Ability to attain commercial applicators license within 3 months of hire
