SENIOR ENGINEER
Current opening is in the Customer Engineering Section of the Engineering Department)
1. Minimum Certification Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited engineering curriculum as defined by the rules of the Tennessee State Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners, Chapter 120-1 from an accredited institution is required. The vacancy within the various sections will determine the specialty related to the type of engineering degree.
Four years of professional experience in engineering is required.
- Employees who receive a positive drug or alcohol test result within the past 12 months prior to posting will not certify for the job.
- Employees who have less than a "2.5" overall job performance on their last performance appraisal will not certify for the job.
- Employees who receive a disciplinary suspension within the past 12 months of posting will not certify for the job.
- Employees who fail or did not take the most recent Safety Manual Test will not certify for any job that would be a promotion.
2. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
a. Oversee the work of employees to safely accomplish assigned tasks. Provide input in the evaluation of employees and train employees as required.
b. Perform / prepare complex engineering analyses, studies, reports and designs to initiate construction of electrical transmission and distribution systems including overhead and underground lines, substations, communications systems, control systems, protection systems, roadway lighting, power quality analyses, environmental studies and audits, and complex computer automation systems.
c. Perform project management activities involving coordinating an engineering team, outside contractors or others. Assist in training members of the work team in compliance with policies, standard procedures and computer applications. Perform and assist in required environmental training.
d. Communicate with employees, customers, and other entities through personal contact, telephone, radio, writing, or electronic means to provide information or to answer questions related to the area of responsibility. Investigate and resolve customer complaints and needs. May be assigned account responsibilities with major customers. Communicate electric system plans, projects and hazards to the general public.
e. Make field inspections for proposed and existing electrical facilities for accuracy, safety and preventive maintenance. These inspections involve exposure to high or low voltages.
f. Perform short-range and long-range planning, studies and reports for the electric system including load forecasts. Coordinate electric system plans with customer needs and outside agencies.
g. Develop and prepare specifications for major projects and equipment. Approve, initiate and evaluate procurement of electric utility equipment and contract work for major projects. Communicate with manufacturers concerning equipment specifications, availability and industry trends. Recommend changes in work methods and equipment to other departments.
h. Review power contracts, hazardous materials contracts, infrastructure use contracts and other contracts related to the electric system.
i. Assist in the preparation of the budget. Responsible for portions of the budget. Track and report on capital projects.
j. Research property rights, rights-of-way and easements. Research new developments in the utility field. Research customer electrical problems and needs.
k. Perform work in a safe manner to protect employees, the public and property.
3. Working Conditions
The working environment of this job includes physical surroundings that are good. There may be occasional exposure to elements such as noise, dust, heat or other undesirable elements. This job demands light physical effort. Occasionally moves or lifts light objects. May walk or stand for prolonged periods.
4. Additional Requirements
Note : This selection process for this position will involve behavioral interviews.
5. Special Licensing and Certification
Must have a valid Class D driver's license from state of residence in accordance with state law.
NOTE :
The current Minimum rate is $51.65 and the current Maximum pay rate is $72.98.
