Position Overview
We seek a detail-oriented Controller to oversee our 501(c)(6) organization’s financial operations. The ideal candidate has strong leadership, nonprofit accounting experience, and financial planning and compliance expertise. This role aligns financial strategies with the organization’s mission and long-term objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations & Compliance
- Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and revenue recognition, explicitly focusing on membership dues and revenue streams.
- Ensure compliance with 501(c)(6) regulations, including tax filings and unrelated business income tracking.
- Prepare and compile financial documentation for federal tax returns, working closely with external tax preparers.
- Conduct monthly bank and investment reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
- Maintain internal financial controls, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency and mitigate risk.
- Lead annual financial audits, providing necessary documentation and support to external auditors.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly financial statements, assist with quarterly and year-end Board of Directors (BOD) reporting, and generate additional financial reports as needed.
- Monitor cash flow, banking activities, and financial investments, making recommendations for optimization.
- Conduct financial analysis, interpreting trends and providing actionable insights to improve financial performance.
- Assist the CFO in developing annual budgets, financial forecasts, and long-term financial plans.
Strategic Leadership & Team Management
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Actively participate in strategic planning sessions, aligning financial strategies with organizational objectives.
- Serve as a trusted financial advisor to senior leadership, guiding budgeting, compliance, and financial risk management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Active Nevada CPA license (Required).
- 4-6 years of relevant experience, including at least 2 years in public accounting.
- A strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, with experience in 501(c)(6) entities, is preferred.
- Expertise in GAAP principles, financial modeling, and internal controls.
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial management tools, such as:
- Microsoft Dynamics GP, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or equivalent.
- Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, tax filings, and audit documentation.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements for membership-based organizations, including disclosure and tracking of donations and member dues reporting.
