ATTORNEY - REMOTE (Poughkeepsie Area)
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Attorney to represent police unions in the Hudson Valley area. This role serves as the primary liaison between the firm and union members, handling labor disputes, disciplinary actions, and contract negotiations. The ideal candidate will have a background in law enforcement-related legal matters or experience working in a District Attorney's office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the main point of contact between the law firm and police union members, providing legal counsel and representation.
- Handle a variety of labor-related matters, including collective bargaining, grievance filings, and disciplinary hearings.
- Represent clients before the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), Public Employment Relations Board (PERB), and other regulatory bodies.
- Prepare and file legal documents for arbitration, mediation, and administrative proceedings.
- Advise union leadership on internal operations, contract negotiations, and compliance with labor laws.
- Manage discovery hearings, fact-finding processes, and interest arbitration cases.
- Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, and memoranda.
- Collaborate with the firm's broader legal team to deliver strategic legal solutions.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
- 3 years of legal experience
- A PLUS - Experience representing law enforcement personnel or working in a District Attorney's office.
- Background in collective bargaining and disciplinary proceedings.
- Strong litigation, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Must reside in Westchester County or north (Orange, Ulster, Dutchess or Putnam Counties). NYC-based candidates will NOT be considered.
- Ability to travel within the Hudson Valley region as needed.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with PERB, NLRB, and RLA proceedings.
- Prior experience as legal counsel to labor unions or public-sector employees.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines independently.
