The Edgartown School is a K-8 school with a current enrollment of 375 children. It is one of seven schools on the island that collectively serve a year-round island population of 23,000 residents. The principal of The Edgartown Elementary School will be responsible for the instructional program, professional and support staff evaluations, budget development and implementation, as well as maintaining a visible presence and engaging with students, parents, and the broader community.
The Edgartown School principal will be the educational administrator and manager of the school and will supervise the operation and management of the school and school property, subject to the supervision and direction of the Superintendent. In accordance with district personnel policies, applicable statutes and budgetary parameters, and subject to the approval of the Superintendent, the Edgartown School principal will be responsible for the employment decisions regarding all teachers, instructional or administrative aides, and other personnel assigned to the school. Through the application of administrative leadership, management and supervisory skills, the principal will organize and provide a learning environment conducive to the maximum educational growth of each learner. The successful candidate should possess strong leadership and communication skills.
Classroom experience is desirable, and at least three years of experience as a school administrator is preferred. A valid Massachusetts license as a K-8 Principal and a masters degree in Education or related field are required. The successful candidate will be expected to reside on the Island of Marthas Vineyard.
