Sample Yarn Procedure
Boxed Sample Yarns
- Location and finding yarns need to be easy and timeless. If we’re searching for yarns, we are wasting critical time for sampling
- Boxes are to be held till the PD box is ready to create.
- We need an ongoing list of yarns in the box storage area & locations. These items should be on the box Count
- Blend
- Supplier
- Customer
- Storage in the cardboard boxes is for overflow quantities only
- Really large quantities of yarns need to be set up and located in general inventory if we get tight on space – note location on our sample yarn sheet for future reference
- Yarns that are in multiple PDs – should be placed in a tote and labeled with all the PDs that use them If all cones won’t fit, I would stock 4 cones to start and replace as needed
- Once we get the racks on the wall at the machines, then we can store all those multiuse yarns in totes on those racks for easy access
PD Totes
- PD Totes and their locations are critical to our flow of work. If you can’t find the yarn or the tote we’re wasting time.
- When a PD Tote is created the location should be posted in the PD Slack channel
- Anytime that PD Tote is moved the new location should be posted in the PD Slack channel
- IF any yarn is removed from that PD box – at least a note should be placed in that tote by who took it and if a new PD Box – what that # is. That should also be posted in the Slack channel for both PDs if it’s a permanent change
- When the PD Tote is restocked that should be posted in the SLACK channel, so no one spends 30 minutes looking for it
Sample Yarn Use – if we are knitting samples, multiple PDs and you see the yarn is running low, there isn’t any back up yarn in the Boxed Sample area. Please post in the PD Slack channel so additional yarn can be purchased.
