GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provide clinical and operational oversight to staff providing treatment to adults who are stabilizing after experiencing challenging symptoms of mental illness and at times substance use. The Team Leader will work with the Coordinator and Director of Crisis Residential Services, along with the physician and nursing staff to foster an environment that promotes wellness and recovery.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Works closely with Crisis Residential Director and CSU Coordinator. Provides program and clinical leadership and oversee and provide all clinical and operational aspects of mental health/AOD services. Oversees activity and assures that all clients are treated in an efficient and effective manner, and that dispositions are appropriate.

2. Facilitate therapeutic group and individual counseling sessions as needed. Manages a case load of clients as needed; maintains a solid working knowledge of all clients in CSU to allow reporting of important information to subsequent shift members, external agencies, etc.

3. Collaborates & communicates with all staff to assure appropriateness and safety of programming for each client.

4. Contributes to treatment process as needed. Assists with intakes, treatment plans, discharge planning, discharges and other unit responsibilities, daily client care and client’s activities of daily living. Performs diagnostic mental health and AOD assessments and refers CSU clients to community programs upon discharge. Perform linkage of clients to other mental health agencies via the hospital linkage program.

5. Oversee the clinical services provided by social workers, Peers and QMHS staff.

6. Works closely with other teams and department at Netcare to assist with patient care.

7. Delegates tasks to QHMS staff, clinical and otherwise.

8. Provides client information to physicians, including risk level, previous history of violence, AOD issues, date of last alcohol or drug use, housing issues, behavioral issues, etc; Follows through with physician’s orders to assure clinically appropriate treatment modalities.

9. Assures client-centered services by promoting and maintaining an environment that effectively accommodates a diverse client base and values collaboration with clients, their families and other service providers, promoting trauma informed care orientation and environment.

10. Orients new staff, trains, and provide supervision and direction to staff.

11. Responsible for ongoing monitoring and feedback on performance as well as required performance evaluations.

12. Ensures staff competency in the proper use of the Netcare Clinical Record (NCR), and trains staff on clinical service provision and documentation.

13. In collaboration with the Coordinator and Director, ensures the schedule is completed proactively and ensures that staffing is appropriate.

14. Assesses potentially dangerous situations and takes appropriate precautionary measures to assure client/worker safety.

15. Promotes and maintains positive relationships with external agencies.

16. Ensures service area’s compliance with applicable federal, state, local standards and requirements. Assures timely and complete documentation of services and activities which meet the standards of Netcare and accrediting agencies.

17. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree and LSW or LPC with three years of experience

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Previous experience in the management and delivery of mental health/AOD services.

2. Demonstrates strong assessment and diagnostic skills as it relates to adults and older adults experiencing mental health and/or AOD issues.

3. Ability to hear and speak well enough to converse with clients or other employees in person or over the telephone for a majority of the time.

4. Ability to relate effectively to a broad client population that is diverse with respect to age, sex, diagnosis, economic, educational and professional backgrounds.

5. Ability to apply and integrate theory, knowledge, values, and practices of behavioral health care and to supervise clinical staff to ensure their knowledge and growth in these areas.

6. Exhibits flexibility and ability to manage multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.

7. Ability to work in alternate locations as assigned.

8. Ability to monitor service delivery, counsel staff and implement corrective action.

9. Ability to participate in the physical restraint of agitated clients.

10. Ability to achieve and maintain certification in required training programs.

11. Ability to operate a computer to record client data, produce written correspondence or reports.

12. Ability to maintain confidentiality of classified information and ability to communicate with employees and other business contacts in a courteous and professional manner.

13. Demonstrates effectiveness in problem-solving.

14. Ability to ensure that services are in compliance with applicable federal, state and local standards.
