What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinical Director position at Nettle & Ash LLC?
We’re looking for a visionary Clinical Director (or whatever title you choose!) to lead and evolve our clinical services across Rhode Island and Massachusetts. This role includes overseeing referrals, assessments, client care, and staff support—while also helping us imagine and build systems that break free from outdated, cookie-cutter models of mental and behavioral health.
Description
Job Title: Director of Clinical Vision & Innovation (Clinical Director)
Location: Rhode Island and Massachusetts
Schedule: Four-day workweek, 32 hours per week, Monday- Thursday (with occasional Tuesday-Friday)
About Us:
At Nettle & Ash, we are reimagining behavioral health as a space of healing, empowerment, and collective liberation. Our work blends the science of behavior with soul, integrating Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), compassion-led ABA, and neurodiversity-affirming principles to create care that honors each person’s humanity.
We reject cookie-cutter approaches. We question the systems we’ve inherited. And we make space for creativity, intuition, and autonomy in everything we do.
We are here for the outsiders, the misfits, the ones who color outside the lines, and we’re looking for a Clinical Director who gets it.
We’re rooted in Rhode Island, with our main location in Providence, a shared healing space cohabitated by yoga teachers, somatic practitioners, reiki healers, and art therapists. It’s a space designed to feel like a creative, cozy, community home. We also run a satellite office in Somerset, MA, where some of our teen and community groups take place.
What We Do:
We support the neurodivergent, queer, and trans community through a rich offering of affirming services, including:
- Queer and Neurodivergent-Affirming Care
- Compassion-Led ABA and ACT-Informed Therapy
- After-School Programs designed for queer and neurodivergent youth
- Tween & Teen Support Groups focused on self-advocacy and connection
- 1:1 Support for teens and adults rooted in autonomy and emotional flexibility
- Workshops & Community Events centering self-compassion, boundaries, and healing
- Integrative Healing Modalities like reiki, somatics, and yoga
- Business Consulting for queer and neurodivergent-affirming practitioners
- Volunteer Opportunities and community outreach for folks seeking connection through service
The Role:
We’re seeking a Clinical Director who is ready to lead boldly, hold complexity, and help us build and expand all clinical systems at Nettle & Ash. This person will not only oversee after-school programs and client care, but will also develop the structures, processes, and relationships that keep our mission grounded, accountable, and thriving.
You’ll have full ownership of:
- Client referrals and intakes
- Staff supervision and mentorship
- Assessments and documentation systems
- Clinical programming and fidelity
- Guiding and evolving the clinical vision alongside our leadership team
This is not a role for someone who wants to replicate the status quo. This is for the rule-bender, the framework-questioner, the compassionate disruptor who sees the cracks in the system, and wants to build something radically better.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee All Clinical Systems: Manage intakes, referrals, assessments, and treatment plans. Ensure documentation, clinical decision-making, and care plans are individualized and values-aligned.
- Lead After-School Programs: Co-design and grow programs that support neurodivergent, queer, and trans youth with creativity and care.
- Mentor with Purpose: Support and develop staff through ACT-based consultation, collaborative problem-solving, and compassionate leadership.
- Reimagine ABA: Whether you’re a BCBA breaking out of behaviorism or a clinician learning to embrace function-based care, your ability to stretch and question is welcome here.
- Train & Inspire: Develop and facilitate trainings that grow clinical skills, self-awareness, cultural humility, and a commitment to equity.
- Prioritize Treatment Integrity Without Rigidity: Support fidelity to person-centered, trauma-informed values while leaving space for innovation and flexibility.
- Embed Anti-Oppression into Practice: Help us deconstruct harmful systems and build services that center liberation, not compliance.
- Promote Relational Repair: Support conflict resolution and accountability processes that prioritize care, humility, and repair over punishment.
- Model Rest & Service: Dedicate 4 hours/month to community volunteering and help us lead from a place of balance, not burnout.
- Amplify the Message: Collaborate with leadership and our creative team to develop content ideas, messaging themes, and outreach strategies for social media and community visibility. You don’t need to be a graphic designer, but you do need to have a voice, a vision, and a willingness to help us break through the noise with integrity and clarity.
- Create and Co-Lead Programming: From one-off community groups to staff trainings to spontaneous workshop ideas, you’ll have the freedom (and encouragement) to bring your own passions and ideas to life. We’re always open to new offerings that align with our mission and uplift our community.
You Might Be a Great Fit If You:
- Are a LMHC, LICSW, or BCBA who wants to unlearn the parts of your training that no longer serve your clients, or your soul.
- Have strong ACT knowledge or a desire to deeply learn and embody these principles.
- Are a strategic thinker and a grounded doer.
- Value process over perfection, collaboration over control, and care over compliance.
- See the ways capitalism, ableism, and supremacy culture show up in our field, and want to build something different.
- Believe that healing must include joy, choice, rest, resistance, and relationship.
- Love to support people in growing, not just clinically, but as full humans.
- Love crafting messages that matter—whether it’s for a parent intake call, a training, or an Instagram caption.
- Feel lit up by creating new offerings, testing out ideas, and co-building programs that don't yet exist.
What We Offer:
- 32-hour, 4-day workweek
- Generous Paid Time Off, including a full month off in the summer
- Fully Covered Healthcare for you and your family
- 401k with up to 5% Match
- Paid Training and Continuing Education
- Autonomy & Flexibility in your leadership role
- Team Culture Rooted in Trust, Humor, and Human-Centered Care
Our Values:
- Compassion: We lead with care, curiosity, and courage.
- Equity: We center marginalized voices and redistribute power.
- Authenticity: We show up whole—even when it’s messy.
- Growth: We honor mistakes as invitations to learn and evolve.
- Balance: We protect joy, rest, and space to breathe.
Come As You Are:
We strongly encourage applications from those who are queer, trans, non-binary, BIPOC, disabled, neurodivergent, parents, immigrants, system-impacted, survivors, and anyone who knows what it means to move through the world with layers of complexity. You belong here.
How to Apply:
Send your resume and a cover letter that tells us not just what you’ve done, but who you are and why you give a damn. We want to hear your vision, your story, and the future you want to build with us.
