Salary Range: $50,000.00 to $60,000.00
Organizational Relationship
or Line of Authority: Directly responsible to the Principal, and to the Superintendent of Schools and/or his/her designee.
Statement of Duties:
Reporting to the School Principal, Student Support Coordinator serves as a key team member in the implementation of a school-wide system of support that includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create a positive school climate. By implementing a continuum of positive behavior support for all students in classroom and non-classroom settings (hallways, buses, lunchroom, bathrooms, etc.), the Student Support Coordinator will help enhance the capacity of the school community by improving the connection between positive practices and teaching and learning.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct support of students in need of therapeutic and/or educational programming that supports youths’ social-emotional development and skill-building.
• Establish and maintain a positive and safe school culture.
• Supervise the consistent and fair administration of school policies regarding student conduct and discipline.
• Support teachers to create and sustain classroom management systems that ensure a focus on learning and student success.
• Collaborate with the student support team in the development and implementation of student supports and interventions.
• Maintain systems for collecting and tracking data on school culture metrics, including discipline and attendance.
• Serve as a liaison to parents and facilitate parent education and involvement in support of school culture policies.
• Facilitate faculty and staff professional development related to school culture and consistent enforcement of student discipline; and
• Organize school events that encourage community connection to and investment in the school culture and student success.
Requirements:
BA/BS degree required, Master’s degree preferred;
• Experience and demonstrated ability in working with children in a counseling or other applicable capacity.
• Prior experience in an urban, high-poverty and/or turnaround school strongly preferred.
• Commitment to accountability, professional development for instructors, and student success.
• Exhibited leadership in working with staff, students, and the community.
• Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills.
• Bi-lingual preferred (but not required).
• Ability to effectively interpret student/school data and identify areas strength, need and growth.
• Strong interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share research-based instructional approaches and provide advice, mentoring, and coaching to teachers and other staff.
• Strong organizational skills.
• An unwavering belief that all students can succeed.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
