Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Safety Professional to oversee and manage our established Pipeline Safety Management System (PSMS) for utility construction projects in the New York metropolitan area. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with all safety regulations, mitigate risks, and promote a culture of safety on all project sites.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop, maintain and improve site/contract specific Health & Safety Plans (HASPs)
· Maintain, manage, and improve the NII Pipeline Safety Management System (PSMS) as a tool to meet and exceed our company’s health and safety goals in direct alignment with our utility customer’s requirements, along with all federal, state, and local regulations. (e.g., PHMSA, OSHA).
· Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
· Collaborate with utility clients, project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to integrate best-in-class safety practices into all phases of our utility construction projects.
· Investigate incidents and near-misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
· Provide training and guidance to employees and subcontractors on safety standards, policies, and best practices.
· Maintain detailed safety records, including documentation of audits, inspections, and compliance activities.
· Serve as a subject matter expert on utility construction safety matters and ensure adherence to applicable utility safety standards.
· Act as the company’s safety liaison to utility company clients, regulators, and industry associations.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
· Minimum of 5 years of experience in safety management, preferably within pipeline or utility construction projects in the NYC metropolitan area.
· Comprehensive knowledge of utility, federal and state pipeline safety regulations (PHMSA, OSHA, etc.).
· Working understanding of Pipeline Safety Management Systems (API RP 1173)
· Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
· Certification in safety-related fields (e.g., CSP, OSHA certifications) is highly desirable.
Work Environment: This role will involve both office and fieldwork settings. The candidate must be comfortable working on construction sites and traveling within the New York metropolitan area as required.
