Title: Incident Response Camp Solid Waste Management and Recycling Program

Job Description:
NetZero Recycling based out of Billings, MT will be traveling to support the U.S Forest Service recycling programs for wildfire incident response camps on the West Coast (including but not limited to MT, WY, ID, WA, OR, CA, NM, AZ). This job will be working within a team of energetic and motivated individuals to implement and monitor recycling operations for firefighters and incident command at wildland firebase/spike camps.
The recycling program aims to achieve a minimum 40% diversion rate through the collection, sorting, and hauling of recyclable materials. The team will be responsible for sorting out recyclables such as paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, and aluminum cans from the waste stream and delivering those recyclables to local recycling centers. We also focus on education and training as they are integral to the program, and engagement from firefighters increases our diversion rates.
Employees will be in direct quarters with firefighters learning and observing the logistics involved in fire camp management. This job is an excellent fit for anyone seeking seasonal, on-call employment.
NOTE: When called to deploy, you must be able to respond to NetZero Team Lead with availability within 2-3 hours and arrive at the incident scene within 36 hours. This is an on-call/seasonal job only, with no set hours or guaranteed work.
Details:
- Location: Filling roles in various regions on the West Coast (WA, OR, CA, WY, ID, CO, MT)
- Wage: $300 per day at camp, depending on the size of camp and position. Camps can last anywhere from 5 to 60 days, with most trending towards 8-14 consecutive days.
- Hours: On average 12-hour days (7am-7pm) with mid-day break/flex time.
- Lodging: Housing is primitive- our team camps out (tent, sleeping bag) in the same area as the firefighters and other camp staff. There are porta-potties, shower trailers, and running water available. These campsites are within 5 minutes of where we will be working. Three catered meals per day are provided once on site.

Job Duties:
- Collecting, emptying, and sorting bags of waste/recyclables from in camp and the fire line
*This is the majority (80%) of the work*
- Distributing recycling bags and training firefighters on proper sorting
- Researching local recyclers and hauling options for the transportation of recyclables
- Engaging a variety of facility and fire camp personnel on proper waste sorting and handling
- Daily recording and reporting measurements for collection for diversion data analysis

- Have your own transportation to the site with a valid driver's license and insurance or be willing to carpool. (Various travel arrangements can be made depending on camp location and team size)
- Must have camping equipment (tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag) to sleep on site.
