JOB SUMMARY
The Phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood on patients at the clinic and ensuring samples are sent to outside medical labs for processing.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Preparing patients before drawing blood
- Explaining blood draw procedures to patients and answering any questions about the process
- Following all health and safety protocols and procedures to maintain sanitary work areas.
- Gathering medical testing materials, including needles, sample vials, blood storage bags and test tubes
- Verifying patient information and labeling blood samples properly
- Accurately updating patient information in the organization's database
- Helping nervous or frightened patients remain calm during blood draws.
- Working with supervising physicians and always following their directions.
- Submit electronic requests to labs. Uploading results included.
- Correct issues should they arise with relation to lab portal.
- 1year minimum experience working as a phlebotomist in a clinic or laboratory setting.
- High school degree or GED equivalent
- Certification or accreditation from a phlebotomy vocational school
- Excellent communication skills.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail.
