Neumann University is currently seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Associate Dean of Students.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Dean of Students Office

  • Serve as the case management administrator with responsibility for developing policies and procedures, managing referrals, interpreting policies, maintaining student records, preparing reports, and performing long-term planning related to student support work. Oversees and issues referrals; ensures continuity of care.
  • Meet individually with students of concern or those who may have acute needs (and their families, if necessary) to coordinate and provide ongoing care management to ensure appropriate serves are in place.
  • Serve as the co-chair of the University CARE/BIT team; design and implement programs and trainings to educate students, faculty, and staff about student well-being, identify/responding to students in distress, and the CARE/BIT team.
  • Plan, organize, and implement campus wide educational programs and participate in outreach activities including but not limited to tabling at key events, integrating information into new student orientations or onboarding processes, presenting to student clubs, and increasing the college's awareness and knowledge of student basic needs through presentations and educational events.
  • Educates campus community about policies, resources, and responsibilities regarding submission Students of Concern Reports and the process by which cases may be reviewed.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with on- and off-campus stakeholders that support a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, and integrated approach to care coordination.
  • Collaborate on the completion of requirements related to Drug Free Schools, STOP Campus Housing Act, and related Clery Act requirements with other members of the Student Affairs Leadership Team.


Student Well-Being

  • Provide leadership for the Office of Student Well-Being staff. Create a supportive environment that promotes the professional/personal development of staff members.
  • Directly supervise the Alcohol, Tobacco, & Other Drug (ATOD) and Healthy Relationships & Violence Prevention Program Directors. Indirectly supervise the Graduate Assistant for Peer Education and 5-10 Peer Educators.
  • Oversee the implementation of training initiatives for student well-being on topics related to substance misuse, health relationships, mental health, and health promotion.
  • Coordinate the medical amnesty and risk management program and related training.
  • Manage Title IX, substance education, and hazing prevention online trainings for new students.
  • Evaluate current student resources and create a strategic plan to scale up efforts to address under-resourced student need and gaps in services by incorporating best practices in goal setting and the development of learning outcomes while consulting with key stakeholders. Specific focus areas will include health, wellness, and support for students in crisis.


Administrative Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate an appreciation for and understanding of the Catholic Franciscan tradition and values of Neumann University. As a visible agent of Neumann University, the highest standards of conduct, attitude, appearance, and confidentiality are expected at all times.
  • Coordinates the Division of Student Affairs recruitment and training of graduate assistants across units. Works closely and collaboratively with Graduate Admissions staff.
  • Coordinate monthly Division of Student Affairs meetings.
  • Support the application, coordination, and administration of grants within the Division of Student Affairs. Closely collaborate with University Advancement in grant administration.
  • Oversee the development and management of the student well-being, professional development, and graduate assistant training budgets.
  • Act as a deputy to the Dean of Students and represent the Division of Student Affairs on institutional and divisional committees.
  • Prepare written reports, presentations, campus communications, marketing strategies, follow-through, and outreach.
  • Collaborate with University stakeholders to support the recruitment and retention of students to Neumann University.
  • Maintain working knowledge of legislation, legal precedent, and best practices as they related to student well-being, student crisis response, and CARE/BIT teams.


Other Work & Responsibilities

  • This position is expected to serve in the senior level Student Affairs on-call team and may have to respond to campus to provide leadership and support during emergency situations after hours. In addition, the role requires some night and weekend work to support the campus community.
  • This position is required to handle confidential information appropriately and is bound by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). This position is also a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act as well as has reporting responsibilities under Title IX for incidents they are made aware of through their role. In addition to reporting, training is required for these designations.


Required Qualifications:

  • Masters’s degree from an accredited higher education institution.
  • 10  years of progressive professional experience in student well-being/wellness promotion, emergency response, CARE/BIT or related areas.
  • Experience developing and maintaining effective campus partnerships.
  • Prior supervision experience
  • Knowledge of developmental issues of both traditional and non-traditional students, commuter students, and resident student populations.
  • Clear evidence of the ability to collaborate with various constituencies, including, but not limited to, students, staff, faculty, and the broader community.
  • Excellent communication skills in both verbal and written formats.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities required.
  • Candidates must possess an understanding of, appreciation for, and congruence with the Catholic Franciscan mission of the University.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with case management systems such as Maxient
  • Experience as a member of a behavioral intervention/threat assessment temp.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and Ellucian systems
