What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Neurological Institute of Interventional Pain Management?
Our busy interventional pain office is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team! As a Medical Assistant, you will be preparing for each patient visit by preparing charts and pulling notes before their arrival, providing routine support alongside medical staff and providers, and assisting with keeping track of tests and lab reporting to ensure everything arrives on time and the patient is kept informed on their condition and care. You will also be helping manage the inventory of medical supplies, setting up machines and testing equipment, and cleaning instruments and rooms as needed. The ideal candidate is a hard-working, motivated individual that has strong customer service skills, an interest in learning more about a working medical environment, and has previous office experience. We have office locations in Allen Park and Monroe, MI and have part-time and full-time opportunities available. We are seeking a candidate that will agree to a flexible schedule and/or commuting to both practice locations.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the patient for their visit with the doctor by escorting patients to exam rooms, collecting vital signs, such as blood pressure, pain score and other applicable data
- Answer phones and field questions about medical issues, identifying visit needs
- Assist providers with basic medical care and procedures, including pre-op and post-op needs
- Assist providers in procedures, which may include working with x-ray, suture removal, IV discontinuation, and sterile field preparation
- Track lab results, call in prescriptions, and handle basic medical office duties
- Clean instruments and equipment after use, including use of auto clave
- Administrative duties may include check-in/check-out for appointments, including collecting payments and scheduling appointments
- Communicating with insurance companies and pharmacies, including prior authorizations for medications
- Preparing and sending medical record requests to referring physicians, attorneys and insurance companies
- Patient education of medications, procedures and instructions for pre and post-op
Qualifications
- Excellent customer service skills
- Strong attention to detail
Experienced Medical Assistants are preferred. Experience in procedure rooms, including setting up sterile fields, using an autoclave, and/or conducting x-rays are a bonus. However, no medical assisting education is necessary, we are willing to train the right candidates with experience in a medical office and good customer service skills. Salary is based on education and experience.
