What are the responsibilities and job description for the Authorization Specialist position at Neurology and Cardiology Office?
This position is responsible to obtain and enter requests for authorization of medical treatments accurately within the electronic systems utilized; including verification of member eligibility, demographics, health plan identification, appropriate entry of referring and requested providers, diagnosis, and procedure coding based on referral submission.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or GED certification, required.
- 2-3 years medical clerical office experience, obtaining medial authorizations.
- Typing certificate of 45 wpm and familiar with medical terminology preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Able to organize and prioritize workload.
- Able to multi-task.
- Must be a motivated self-starter.
Summary
As an Authorization Specialist, you will be essential in managing patient authorizations and ensuring compliance with insurance requirements. Reporting to the office manager, your role will leverage core skills in medical terminology, medical records, and insurance verification to facilitate efficient patient care. Your premium skills in managed care and coding (CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10) will enhance the accuracy of claims processing. Responsibilities
- Verify patient insurance information and eligibility for services.
- Maintain and update medical records with accuracy and attention to detail.

- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations during the handling of sensitive patient information.
- Obtain insurance authorizations for clinic visits, procedures and imaging studies
- Provide support in a bilingual capacity to enhance patient communication and service.
