Description
Job Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant, under the direction of a physician, plays a vital role in providing exceptional healthcare services to patients. This position involves a wide range of patient care activities, including maintaining clinical records, taking vital signs, making, and receiving phone calls, refilling prescriptions, completing pre-authorizations, and scheduling appointments.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, ensuring cleanliness and sterilization of equipment. Restock supplies and maintain optimal inventory levels. Document and track inventory as needed.
Escort patients from the waiting room and prepare them for examination.
Conduct interviews with patients to gather and record medical information in their electronic medical record. Ensure all necessary charts and forms are prepared for the provider.
Measure, collect, and record vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, weight, and height. Assist in preparing patients for examinations and tests.
Administer routine medications, injections, and vaccinations as directed by the physician. Identify and report any adverse reactions.
Perform administrative tasks, including answering telephone calls, taking messages, sending referrals/orders, and scheduling patient appointments.
Fulfill any additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management and physician leadership.
Adhere to all HIPAA and confidentiality regulations and policies.
Qualifications
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficient in general administrative and clerical procedures.
Familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
Excellent telephone communication skills.
Ability to provide compassionate and considerate care to all patients, even in challenging situations.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with individuals from diverse educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds.
Ability to handle both clinical and clerical tasks efficiently.
Sound judgment to manage team communications and make clinical decisions.
Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills.
Outstanding customer service abilities.
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant program and current certification. • Maintains CPR certification.
Knowledge of the healthcare field and medical specialties.
Understanding of information that needs to be conveyed to patients and families.
Experience in a PC/Windows environment.
Familiarity with Allscripts EHR and PM systems is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
Proficiency in operating general business equipment, such as printers and copiers.
Effective oral communication skills.
Capability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool, as necessary.
