Description

Job Summary:

Works under the direction of the Supervisor of Clinical Neurophysiology in performing neurodiagnostic, neurophysiology and other related diagnostic tests in the clinic. Works directly with patients daily and corresponds with medical providers, clinical leadership team and other leaders to achieve the best outcomes for our patients.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

 

  • Independently performs the following clinical procedures; routine and long-term EEG, EEG monitoring, Polysomnography.
  • Learns to assist and perform additional and advanced Neurodiagnostic, imaging and other neuro-related procedures by supervised practice with increasing independence. 
  • Monitors patients hooked up for EEG testing in the Sub-acute Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.  Reports critical events to clinical staff and physicians in a timely manner according to department protocols. 
  • Provides technical descriptions of the EEG to support staff as they assess patients for comprehension and ability to cooperate during ictal and non-ictal events as assigned.
  • Applies methods to obtain optimal electrical recordings and actively identifies equipment limitations and problems related to patient care. 
  • Assess complex situations in a healthcare setting, describes diagnostic testing information and interacts with patients and family in critical settings and under stressful circumstances.  Demonstrates problem solving ability when faced with uncertain situations which may require quick intervention. 
  • Demonstrates the ability to access, navigate and document in multiple software applications (Natus XLTEK, Microsoft Office suites, Persyst, Cadwell, Citrix, Allscripts software systems).
  • Orients new staff and students to work areas. Collaborates with other employees to create an environment that is conducive to retention of qualified personnel. 
  • Utilizes downtime to assist others and/or to provide additional amenities to patients and/or patients’ families. Assistance to other duties as assigned by management.
  • Role model’s pro-active problem solving and utilizes chain of command for unresolved or escalating issues. 
  • Advocates for patients and staff to provide for safe delivery of care and/or a safe environment of care. 
  • Equally rotates shift responsibilities and demonstrates flexibility and willingness to provide coverage during shifts when staffing crisis/shortage occurs.

Qualifications


Required Skills/Abilities:

 

  • Work requires working knowledge of computer systems and the following software applications: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Skype, and PowerPoint), Natus XLTEK
  • Work requires ability to devise creative alternatives and suggestions to workflow constraints.
  • Work requires a change agent attitude that includes flexibility and adaptability to perform in a high-volume facility with multiple physicians

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • 1 year of experience in the field of Neurodiagnostics
  • A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (or may be obtained prior to start date)
  • High School diploma or equivalent, some college or concentrated coursework in the field of neurodiagnostic training preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Work is performed primarily in an outpatient clinic environment. Routine walking, climbing, lifting.
  • Work may require sitting for long periods of time while staying fully alert.
  • Work will require interacting with patients and their families, keeping the rooms and work area clean, and working alongside other healthcare professionals in a clinical setting.
  • Work may require being alone in a clinical setting monitoring patients on a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • This is an overnight position.
