We are looking for a compassionate and dependable Respite Worker to provide part-time support for a bright and kind young professional in his late 30s with mild Cerebral Palsy and controlled epilepsy. This role involves ensuring his well-being and assisting with daily activities while promoting his independence in a safe and supportive environment.
You will provide companionship, assist with daily living tasks, support medication management, and be available to respond appropriately in case of emergencies. The ideal candidate is responsible, patient, and proactive, with experience in caregiving or healthcare-related fields. Nursing students or individuals with emergency response training are highly encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities1. Companionship and Social Engagement
- Provide companionship and emotional support
- Encourage and participate in social and recreational activities
- Offer motivation and engagement in daily routines
2. Assistance with Daily Living & Household Tasks
- Support in maintaining a clean and organized living space
- Assist with laundry, particularly when the client is at work or engaged in activities
- Cook or help with meal preparation as needed
- Ensure timely transportation (e.g., Uber rides for appointments and activities)
- Grocery shopping or accompanying the client to shop for essentials
- Ensure the client’s preferred food items are stocked in the refrigerator and pantry
- Be open to accompanying the client to church or other activities if invited
3. Medication Management
- Confirm that all medications have been taken as scheduled
- Remind the client to bring medication if leaving home between 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM
- Ensure medication trays are filled for up to 14 days and assist in checking stock levels
- Encourage the client to reorder prescriptions from CVS when running low
4. Communication & Reporting
- Maintain regular communication with family members
- Provide updates on the client’s well-being, activities, and any significant changes
5. Safety & Emergency Preparedness
- Ensure a safe and secure environment at all times
- Be trained in emergency procedures, including medical response, fire safety, and earthquake evacuation
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous experience in respite care, caregiving, or healthcare preferred
- Understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of individuals with disabilities
- Ability to stay calm and act quickly in emergencies
- Patience, empathy, and a positive, proactive attitude
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain) is a plus
